Don't ask for pears from an elm tree.
This is an entertainment business. Premium users pay a monthly or annual subscription; non-premium users don't; they only spend on things they buy within the world, and if they manage to earn a few L$, Linden Lab doesn't make any profit from those users. Maintaining the streaming is expensive; the infrastructure to host so much data from almost a million users is already very demanding on Linden Lab.
Second Life Zero, based on the official web viewer, is free. I use it every day. Just keep in mind that you have an hour to enjoy it. The session ends for that hour, and you re-enter the world. This is what I've been doing since SL Zero launched.
I'm not sure if it's in Linden Lab's best interest to make SL Zero open and free for everyone.

Fabio Descenna I've been in SL for almost 18 years on the same avatar. Trust me when I say a browser based SL would bring in more people. It's easier on the computer, not everything has to be about money.

Nazaire Dragonash, Hey, I've been in SL for over 18 years, too. My comment was more from Linden Lab's perspective. I think that's what they're looking for. I don't think they're thinking about us that much. Regards, Nazaire.
