Forced Reset to Shared Environment Upon Each Teleport
Prokofy Neva
Despite setting Environment to the user's choice, e.g. Midday ( Legacy ) the viewer keeps forcibly resetting Environment to "Use Shared Environment" for a location after teleportation. If reset yet again, upon the next teleport, Environment keeps resetting to the local "Use Shared Environment". UNLESS you "just know" to uncheck a NEW option which is "Switch to Shared After Teleport". This is entirely unnecessary, not intuitive, and creates an extra step of workflow on all accounts. I can't think of a good reason for this except the demand some sim creators have that you must see their work in their chosen EEP. That's not a good enough reason as it adds unnecessary coercion to which should always be a user-selected choice.
"Use Shared Environment" should remain a user's choice, not forced on each visitor upon arrival at a location, and forced on them as a default, with the requirement of having to uncheck it to get it to stop.
All of this should be put back the way it was before. If you have to move this out of "Bug" to "Feature" that's your call.

This is a new option which defaults to on. Find it at World menu > Environment > Switch to Shared after teleport.

Dan Linden Then I would still call it a bug because it's a pernicious feature that is forcing a choice on us. It should default to "off" -- and then you can change it upon landing. Yes, you can change it under world/environment. But It doesn't stay turned off. It resets to "Use Shared" after every teleport. This is a hellscape if you have to take care of a lot of different venues, parcels, rentals, etc. Just because creators want you to use their select environment on their sim doesn't mean it should be globally forced on us. I don't understand why this was imposed after years of having free choice.

Prokofy Neva: You said 'It doesn't stay turned off. It resets to "Use Shared" after every teleport.'
It should stay turned off and has done so every time I've tested it. Perhaps your viewer crashed during that session and the option was not saved.
If you turn the option off does it turn back on on the very next teleport?
Prokofy Neva
Dan Linden No, I have tested this over and over on dozens of teleports and parcels -- and others are reporting this too on social media. No, my viewer has not crashed. Indeed, I keep turning back to "Midday Legacy" and each time I teleport it reverts back to "Use Shared Environment" every time.
Dan Linden
Prokofy Neva: Just to confirm, have you unchecked the "Switch to Shared after teleport" that is just below "Use Shared Environment"? If you have unchecked that, then the environment should remain as "Midday Legacy" or whatever Environment you chose.

Dan Linden I've already reverted to the previous version of the Viewer because this was such a persistent nuisance. I don't recall seeing any box like that to check/uncheck or I would have. So now I will have to uinstall and reinstall to see if this appears. But I don't understand why you even messed with this in the first place. It was fine the way it was, with the user opting to select "Use Shared Environment" -- or not -- on demand.

Dan LindenOK, I have now downloaded this new viewer and tested it again. Yes, if you "just know" to UNCHECK "Switch to Shared After Teleport" -- a new option -- then yes, you can get it to stop. But it is not mentioned in the Release Notes and there is no way to look for it intuitively. I have somewhat revised my proposal but I want to keep it open because I firmly believe you should put this back the way it was, and cease to make the default to "Switch to Shared After Teleport" which is super annoying -- and some people will not understand why this is happening..
You've added an extra, non-intuitive step to the user experience and conditioned lightning now to default to the sim owner rather than the traveler. Yes, there are a minority of sim creators who demand you use their selected EEP in order to "properly" see their artwork. But their sims are often simply too dark or chaotic even to see at all. The question of lightning must be left up to the user's choice, whether they opt to share the environment of the creator or keep their own lighting. The creators making this demand are in the minority; users traveling about from sim to sim are in the majority.
Like the incessant notification of "invalid characters" that are already obvious, and the incessant notification of the folders you know you already selected for screenshots to go into on your hard drive, these are obsessive and annoying notifications that no one asked for and just got put in the viewer without any public acclaim (I have a Canny on this issue as well).

Dan Linden What is the purpose of this new setting? It seems redundant at first glance, since if you select Use Shared Environment, it changes to the current parcel's environment each time you enter a different parcel and this includes teleports. If you select any other environment, why would you want this "Switch to Shared after teleport" option?

Perhaps as an option ,,,,
Prokofy Neva
Bavid Dailey It used to be an option and now it's forced, just like the absurd forced sorting of every landmark FIRST into "Favourites" and then only letting you put it in the regular folder manually. There is no way to set this permanently and globally now in this latest viewer.
