I installed the the new version that got pushed this evening, and when I open the viewer, the sound on my computer sounds like it is in a barrel. I guess the new WebRC thing. I don't even use voice and it has screwed things up. Cannot find a way to turn it off, either

I no longer have the viewer installed, so I cannot verify what you ask. Honestly, I cannot recall, though I think it was as soon as the viewer opened.
I also have not installed any other versions of the viewer, sorry. I am not really very invested in getting this resolved, I use something else and was just evaluating how PBR performed in the LL Viewer vs the other viewer. The previous version I had installed actually worked very well, but I had the sound issue with the new version. In the end I just uninstalled the LL Viewer and moved on. However, I wanted to report the issue for your information. If no one else has reported it I guess it is just something about my system, so no problem.
Thx!

Understood. Thank you for your initial report that did reveal a bug in the FMOD Audio Driver Version, and thank you for sending us an update.

Hi CaerolleClaudel.
You say the sound goes tinny as soon as the current SL Viewer opens. Does that mean it happens even while the SL viewer is at the login screen?
Did you get a chance to compare with the Release viewer (7.1.8.9375512768 - Materials Featurettes) which can be downloaded from https://secondlife.com/download ? That version has a more up to date Audio Driver Version (In Help > About Second Life)

The sound problem isn't in SL, I am not listening to anything in SL. The sound that gets broken is from a streaming app I listen to while doing SL (YouTube TV). As soon as the current SL Viewer opens, the sound goes from rich and full to weak and tinny. After I close the app, it takes a couple minutes (I assume for SL to let go of control of whatever) the sound from the streaming app comes back to normal. This did not happen before I installed the new version of the viewer.
Thanks for the response!!

Hi CaerolleClaudel.
Please tell us the location where you hear the sound is wrong and what the sound source is if possible; eg. in-world object, a music stream on a parcel, media playing on a prim, or voice.
I do notice that the Audio Driver Version is different in that WebRTC viewer and we will fix that, but so far I have not heard anything wrong with the sounds here.
If you wish, you can go back to the non-WebRTC viewer which can be downloaded from https://secondlife.com/download
