PBR Performance Hit

Just some observations about PBR:
It is killing many of of our lower resource friends because their hardware cannot run it.
It breaks many EEP settings we like. eg. I am at SLB21 event and my normal Nam's EEP flashes from dark to light.
No control over some annoying local lighting except by trying to find source to derender.
This stuff is pretty if you have hardware to run it but those that do not will be lost and I am afraid that will be many residents.
I hope there will be an alternative for our many lower hardware resource friends.

Title: PBR Viewer
Details: A standalone viewer that is NOT blocked without this PBR innovation. Not everyone wants this stuff, some can no longer enjoy SL because of this innovation. It doesn't affect me but there are certainly enough people whose computers or laptops are now too weak for it.
So I think it would be sensible if LindenLab offered users two viewers. One without PBR and one with PBR. I don't know why we need mirrors in SL. In the end, everyone thinks they are the prettiest anyway. ^^
Don't do what Firestorm did and block the use of a viewer just because it's older. Give people a chance to be in SL without PBR

I'm not using PBR yet because I think my graphics and performance are fine without it. Maybe I'll try making a mirror on the SL viewer, but otherwise it's not worth risking a drop in performace or added stress on my computer.
Maybe only 10% of the current users will drop SL because of this graphics enhancement, but I doubt it will increase new user retention, so it will likely still result in a net loss to the active user base. 👎

Today i have cancelled my membership and did a downgrade to basic cause of that PBR Viewer issues. I am in SL nearly 20 years now (since 2006) and i never had any viewer issues before. I am on an iMac Pro Workstation with AMD Vega 64 card, a computer for US$9000 by Apple. I never had any viewer issues before and SL run smoothly without any fan noise, or graphics issues. The new PBR Viewer is a pain at my iMac Pro and everything has wrong colors, is shiny and bright and i can't get my old "Nam Perfect Prim / Mesh" settings to work. It simply looks horrible and my cute avatar is destroyed now. I also cancelled my LL home and gave up today. I tried different settings and viewer settings, it does not work at a mac. The alpha blendings are a pain too, the FPS went down to 10FPS or lower, my fan starts to blow and this never happend before at my workstation. An iMac Pro is still a very powerful Intel XEON Workstation, it can render most complicated Blender meshes without any blowing fans. I think it is the first time i ever heard the fans at my workstation. So i gave up today. It is not my fault, this is clearly LL fault and a wrong way to force PBR Viewers. So good bye after 18 Years.

so i am gonna keep up saying truth these clowns will just find ways give fixes that dont do shit to fix issues. i have not seen one change to anything ever. they dont compute low end pcs cant handle it at all as they need options remove it

this is unlikely to ever happen PBR completely replaces the old rendering engine the old rendering engine dosent exist in the viewer anymore there is no way to switch back and forth its been replaced people just need to upgrade and they dont need fancy brand new gaming computers a mid range second hand system that has a dedicated graphics card with at least 6gb of vram should suffice integrated graphics simply isent powerful enough for SL anymore because that's really the only option SL cannot keep supporting old antiquated stuff if it wants to keep moving forward keep its userbase and get new users there has been a big decline in userbase and not cus of PBR but because sl has become old and outdated so what sl is getting ios a entire complete make over so that it doesn't fade into obscurity and non existence

mia70517 Resident There are many things that will happen with PBR going forward - removing it isn't one of them. The problems you are experiencing are largely due to the technical debt and baggage that the project has incurred for being over 20 years old, and the PBR project was an initial effort to finally try and start cleaning some of it up.
Computers move forward, not backwards, and technology always advances - you do not buy a new computer to downgrade it.
Calling any of us who disagree with you "clowns" might make you feel better, but ultimately it does not solve your issue, does not magically make that true, nor does it fix the problems you are experiencing on your system today. If you are having troubles running PBR, you can try a TPV like CoolVL, but your system's days are numbered - you need to look into a replacement and you must start saving for it. That is not optional. That is the cost of owning a PC - eventually you will have to replace it.

Rachelle Kiyori Keep in mind Rachelle that these folk are not against SL progressing, the prettiness that PBR promises, but that the SL Viewers don't run very well on their existing system - and many have pointed out on the forums they can PBR just fine everywhere else.
If SL now requires higher system specs to get the same performance as other games, or that it will USE more of it to get the same effects, then LL needs to make that clear and update the minimum requirements and/or look at optimiziing as best they can, AND include fall backs - even if it means the classic baked texture everyone is using anyway.
Ceri Quixote
SL has always required higher system specs to get the same performance as other games. It's the drawback of being an open sandbox with almost entirely user created content. You cannot compare it to a game where every asset is made in a studio.
I will agree that the current system requirements do not appear to have been updated for the PBR viewer and that should be done; however, I don't see the necessity of fall backs for systems that are objectively outdated or just not designed for a 3D environment.

Rachelle Kiyori oh what ever as it feels inconsiderate as these issues are not addressed by anyone as we need fixes for it for many people can’t play the game because of these yet people like you make excuses about it. We need it fixed period
