Spinning object randomly not spinning
observeur Resident
I have many products that spin, and they are randomly stop spinning unless right clicking them. This is a very old issue, but i would like this to be solved.
To say things clearly, they are set to spin by script, (using lltargetomega, but it's like the information that they are spinning doesn't reach the viewer .. randomly.. (as some of them will be spinning and some others not, and if i tp back that would be some other stoping spinning).
And it would be spinning for some people, and not spinning for other present at the same moment.

I reproduced this with the spinners at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/By%20Design/117/90/23 today while using Firestorm 7.1.13 (78233) Jun 5 2025 04:41:04 (64bit / AVX2) (Firestorm-Nightlyx64) with Havok support
I logged into that location and I was alone on the region.
One of the spinners was stationary & remained stationary.
Right clicking the spinner made it spin again

Making a note of our testing. If someone that has edit rights for the object selects the object, then it stops rotating for everyone that was watching it.
We had a thought that maybe if some parameter (color, settext, etc.) of the object changes while the viewer is looking away it may cause this issue.
More investigation and a reliable recipe needed.

Dan Linden i see.. since the spirals in this instance are programmed to do certain things periodically, mostly throwing particles really, it might indeed be related to the issue. As for the object stopping rotating while selected, that i noticed it in my tipjars when helping my customers. It usually recovers but as you say, maybe not if i look away while they select it. I will rezz out some basic unscripted spinning spirals somewhere to see how they behave.

Dan Linden I've been observing for a few days a series of spirals, put in a skybox (so nobody can touch them), and so far, they all have been spinning (for me), while the ones in my store, some do actually stop spinning .. probably spirals that people touched. That would validate your theory.
