Textures on large prims lose resolution even while viewed very closely

Have a large prim like a landmass object.
When viewed from one side it renders the full resolution texture.
When the camera is rotated slightly, the texture goes low res no matter how close I look at it. Turning the camera a few degrees back makes it high res again.

Please leave the large mesh in place on Aditi so that others can also reproduce the issue :)

I have put a copy of the mesh at secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Materials1/184/34/2415
If you right click the mesh it will show the full material but then revert from any angle.
