Viewer no longer remembers 3D input device in preferences between relogs

I use a 3Dconexxions Spacemouse, as well as a normal mouse. In Preferences/Move&View/OtherDevices the input device can be selected. It used to be remembered, so every time I started the viewer, I could use my Spacemouse.
The setting no longer sticks, so every time I start the viewer I have to go through the process of activating my Spacemouse again in Preferences.
This bug was introduced sometime recently-ish; I only noticed now because Firestorm's latest public release version now has the bug. So I guess the change was some time between Firestorm's previous public release, and this one. The issue never used to occur in either viewer before that; I have used a Spacemouse like this for many years.
This is something of a pain!

It's another reason I cannot rely on the buggy PBR browser, very worrying. lack of space mouse settings being remembered have been commented on by FIVE of my fellow show dances and Choreographers

AAngel Braveheart Thank you for commenting. I imagine using a spacemouse for your uses is vital; it's the best way I've ever found for making videos in SL in flycam mode. Please get people to come and vote for the fix if you can :)

Hi Rick,
Are you saying that the Joystick Configuration drop down selection (Preferences>Move & View>Other Devices) is set to None instead of the SpaceMouse Compact setting upon a relog?
Does your Mouse also appear as a Joystick in this window?

Hi Atlas, lot of information follows, please bear with me...
To answer your question, the entry is always set to "Z2" (my swiftpoint mouse - it has a gyroscope too) when I start the viewer. If I set it to Spacemouse Wireless and relog, it goes back to Z2 again. See attached pic. This is on PC 1 - see next paragraph:
Oddly though, I just tried on another PC (I'll call it PC 2) that I don't often use for SL and that does remember the setting.
I've swapped the setting back and forth a few times on each PC; PC1 always sets back to Z2, PC2 always remembers what I set.
To test further, I reverted PC1 to the previous firestorm release. That remembered the setting as it used to. I put the latest FS release back on, and it set back to Z2 on relog. So there is a definitely a change in behaviour between the versions.
To add a bit of complexity although I can't see why it should make a difference between the two PC's... my Z2 mouse, keyboard and the Spacemouse wireless dongle are all shared through a monitor and USB sharing switch between the two PCs. It's a 'dumb'-ish KVM, i.e. it just switches the USB and doesn't try to emulate a keyboard and mouse like a 'real' KVM).
That has been the case for years though, and there's never been a problem before (and isn't now with the reverted FS test) so I don't think it's the cause. I've even made sure to have PC1 already selected on the switch before starting it just in case, although to start the viewer means the spacemouse etc must be connected that way, and the viewer still forgets the setting when I relog (I'm not switching the sharing box between relogs, although in the past I could do so without issue).
If it wasn't for the fact that it does the same in Firestorm (where I first noticed it) I would try a clean install; but I doubt both viewers have somehow got the same damaged install. Both PC's are a similar software setup; same OS, same SL viewer version.
I'll dig a bit more when I get chance later. the fact the setting is remembered on one PC and not on the other is puzzling, but I'm sure there is a difference in the two versions I tested.

Just to add a bit more... I checked the driver versions and settings for my Z2 mouse and the Spacemouse. They are identical on both PCs. I've not identified any difference that might account for the different behaviour in the viewers on them.

Thanks for the extra info, Rick!

In general the lack of love for the 3Dconexxions devices is more than 'something of pain' , it is a recurring irritation.
