VOICE CUTTING OUT
needs info

Voice cutting out after a few second. works again when I refresh voice in preferences and click ok, then it drops out again. This issues has been happening for over 3 weeks and never happened before. My mic works fine on other platforms like discord, zoom etc it is purely a recent SL issue.I know all my settings are correct and the support ticket I filed suggested this was a bug. I am using the latest firestorm release but have also downloaded firestorm Beta and the latest sl viewer and this issue occurs in all of these. It also happened in any sim I visit, not just one sim. I am using a Mac and Firestorm 7.2.3 (80036) although I tried Bets and the new SL viewer as I said.

Hi Evey Glas, I have a few questions:
- What type of audio device are you using for voice? Is it the built-in audio, or connected via an analog, USB, bluetooth, or other wireless connection?
- When you say that voice is 'cutting out', is it that you stop hearing voice from other users, or that they stop hearing your voice?
- When you have these cutting-out events, do you still see voice dots, or do they disappear?

Maestro Linden So I use the in-built mic on my Mac and the in-built speakers to hear. When voice cuts out, I mean 'they' stop hearing me. It's like sl is cutting off my mic...it works again if I refresh voice in preferences and then they hear me...a few moments later it cuts off again. I believe my head dot disappears until I refresh.
I am used to using my mic function in sl and for my rl radio work.
After 17 years in sl I am feeling frustrated and disillusioned but I really appreciate your help here.

Evey Glas: Okay, the built-in mic and speakers should be very solid from a connectivity point of view. The only nuance of that particular device setup is that the microphone could also be picking up audio from the speakers, exercising the 'echo cancellation' filter when you speak.
Can you confirm if the voice dot above of your head definitely disappears when they stop hearing you? If they do, that points to a connectivity issue with the voice server rather than audio filters working against you.
As Lettie mentioned, I'd also recommend trying either of the 2 viewer builds she linked to, as there are a number of voice-related fixes compared to Firestorm 7.2.3.

Maestro Linden So I have just tested this with a friend and my spot stays on above my head even though the mic has disconnected. I did this test using the Firestorm 7.2.3 (80036) viewer. I will try to do the same test later using the 2 other suggested viewers

For those experincing this issue using Firestorm, the Firestorm 7.2.3 (80036) viewer has a number of known bugs around webRTC voice chat.
Are you able to reproduce voice disconnects when idling in a sim with either of these viewers?:
Firestorm's latest Preview build: 7.2.4 (80712). Can be found here: https://www.firestormviewer.org/early-access-beta-downloads/
The Second Life 26.2 release viewer, which can be found here: https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/viewer/26.2.0.25386466510.html
If so, please reproduce the issue on one of those viewers and send us some logs.

Zip up your viewer logs folder. This page tells you where to find the logs folder for the Second Life viewer. For Firestorm, the instructions are similar but the directory and log file following a 'Firestorm' naming pattern instead of 'SecondLife': https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/how-to-report-a-bug-r224/
Email the zip file to bug-attachments@lindenlab.com and reference the issue name in the email subject line.
Leave a comment on this canny issue (along with details about which viewer you were using) once that's done so we can take a look at the logs.

Voice in local chat, IM's and group calls continuously drop or cut out.

There is no way to reproduce it. Voice in local, IM's, Group calls, everywhere will just randomly stop working or boot people out. This is happening with in our group on Firestorm viewers as well as the official current Second life viewer. We spend half of our time just trying to get connected to voice. Re logging, and toggling sound, re calibrating the voice settings in preferences and nothing fixes it. Then all of a sudden it will just randomly start working again.

Its a nightmare durring group chats for events where it gives the No answer

Thunder Skydancer I would recommend filing a separate bug about the group call issue you describe, along with steps to reproduce the issue and details about which viewer you're using. Some instructions for how to do so can be found here: https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/how-to-report-a-bug-r224/
