Voice does to adhere to input/output devices specified in preferences

In the release build of the LL viewer this works fine. This is ONLY in the RC 7.1.9.10326512121 build (and Firestorm 7.1.9.75794 which is based on this RC code)
I set voice to input and output using my Plantronics Headset. On the live LL client this works as it should and all other sound is sent to my default device which is my iMac speakers.
With the RC client all sound is sent to the default device and it takes input from the default mic on my iMac but there is a very quiet "echo" of this being played on my headset as if it is also trying to use that.
This currently renders voice inoperative for me as I am unable to use a headset and it defaulting to use the iMac speakers for output plus the iMac mic for input results in a great deal of background noise in addition to echos caused by feedback.

Sorry for the extreme delay - had a few issues in real life to attend to.
I have tested using Second Life Release 7.1.10.10800445603 (64bit)
Voice functions as expected when at WebRTC Voice 1 and also at my home however the issue persists when visiting Voice Echo Canyon which is where people are directed to with voice issues.
I am suspecting therefore that Voice Echo Canyon is not compatible with the WebRTC voice and maybe some signs or notifications added to Voice Echo Canyon advising people that it is only for use with people on the older viewers in order to prevent more people like me from raising issues such as this.

Merged in a post from Jelena Kiranov:
Title: Audio input and output settings are ignored in the Second Life viewer
Details: I have a setup consisting of a MacBook Pro M2 connected to two monitors, with external speakers connected via an audio jack and Jabra headphones connected via USB-C. In the macOS Sonoma sound control panel, I have set the USB-C headset microphone as the input and the external speakers connected via the audio jack as the output.
With previous viewers (the official Second Life viewer, Firestorm 7.1.9, and Alchemy 7.1.9.2492), I set both the audio input and output to the USB-C headphones in the viewer preferences. This allowed me to hear voice chat through the USB-C headphones and use their microphone while hearing the land's audio stream through the external speakers. This setup worked perfectly.
With the latest Second Life viewer and the latest version of Alchemy 7.1.9.2501, the audio device settings in the viewer preferences are ignored. Regardless of the device selected in the viewer, audio input and output are controlled solely by the system sound panel.
As a result, all audio (both voice chat and the land's audio stream) is either played only through the external speakers or only through the headphones, with no way to separate them as I could previously. This severely impacts the usability of the viewer, as I can no longer manage voice chat and the land's audio stream independently.

Hi Randy,
Could you try again with the new Atlasaurus+WebRTC viewer from https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/viewer/7.1.9.10515727195.html on the "WebRTC Voice 1" region of the main grid? We think it should work as you expect there. Please let us know.
