Revised comment:
Thank you all for your comments. I did not realize that the new $50L cost was due to the larger image size, to which my new computer defaults. Based on that new realization, I would like to modify this feature request to include an optional check box in the upload dialog box, to automatically downsize larger uploaded images to 1024 for the normal $10L upload price.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having just upgraded my viewer, I wanted to upload a photo and was shocked to discover that it now costs $50L to upload a single photo/texture!
I have been in SL now for over 18 years and uploaded several hundred photos to use as textures in devices that I make and sell, as well as photos that were taken both inside and outside of SL, to share with SL friends and acquaintances.
The new $50L price is prohibitive enough to make me want to refrain from experimenting and building new things, especially those that require multiple different textures. It will also discourage my friends and me from taking and sharing photos in SL.
With this prohibitive and punitive 5 TIMES INCREASE IN PRICE, my use and enjoyment of SL has just been changed dramatically enough to make me consider exploring other alternatives, where creating and building do not come at a ridiculously high price!

I take photos for my land rental business and always take the smallest photo 10L.. I'm a premium member not premium plus and it still works for me. 😊 Also you can upload pics to your computer free and put them on Flickr and such if need be.

nothing is free , everything we import takes up space on SL's servers , becomes premium plus and costs you have 0 costs for photos up to 2048 and mesh loading and/or sounds

Seconding Rowan's comment to add: The maximum allowable size for 10 Linden dollars is a 1024 x1024 image, which has been the case since that image size was introduced.
If the creation tools you are using were making 2048x2048 textures, these used to be incompatible with second Life and were being scaled down automatically by your viewer silently when you went to upload.
2048 x 2048 textures were recently added, (quadrupling the highest possible resolution) and there is a higher cost for those extra-large images, but the cost has not changed at all in the 1024x1024 and smaller images.
You might see a sudden price increase if your viewer was resizing the images automatically for you in the past, because now it's trying to upload an image size that is actually allowed so no downscaling is being performed. As Rowan mentioned, make sure that you're exporting 1024 sized images from your creation software.

You need to downsize your photo before uploading. 50L is for 2k textures. Anything above 1024 is considered at the 2k price.
