Better Straffing/Avatar Movement/Lock-On

One thing that does bug me is sometimes I want to move my avatar backwards or strafe sidewalks without the avatar turning. Now I know in move & view it's a toggle option but local only and only for backwards movement. Basically I want the ability to do proper circle strafing and proper walking backwards.
What I propose is create the feature as a function for scripting that can be toggled on or off, because sometimes you want the regular movement. Also possibly make another function where you look at a target and can strafe around the target.
This feature would work best with SL Sports HUDs that currently exist like Boxing, Wrestling, Football, Basketball, etc.

Not precisely what this poster is asking for but sharing in case it helps. This may not be widely known, on Firestorm anyway, I can left click my avatar's head or nameplate and while holding left down, right click to move around. I navigate spiral stairs with ease as well as moving in crowds avoiding running into people this way.
Also while holding left click on your head/name, you can use your A & D keys to strafe to the sides, if you're holding W or S + A or D you move forward or backward on a diagonal.
If I want to walk past a wall of things but see the wall in my view instead of what's facing my avatar, I use the Walk/Run/Fly button utilizing the side arrow keys, you can tap A or D to steer while moving sideways.
Being able to strafe sideways while facing forward (similarly to WoW or FFXIV, etc) could be an interesting option to use here in SL.
