Divide Head and Body Shapes
tracked
Buttacwup Float
There would be a huge benefit to creating two separate wearable objects one with the shape settings for heads and another with the settings for bodies. If dividing the base shape is not feasible then having a built in official way to manage the settings for each and upload/download them as needed would be a good alternative. Actual shapes though make it very easy when swapping a head to simply wear the appropriate shape.
Another alternative would be to allow shape settings to be adjusted via LSL.

I made a similar suggestion, too. Mine was that we keep the body shape as it is (so as not to break existing content) but to also have a specific 'head shape'. If both a head shape and a body shape are worn, the head shape overrides all the head-related sliders in the body shape.

Ability to create separate body and head shapes
Nova Murray
I'd love to be able to have the body and my head shapes be separate. Right now the shapes are tied together as one shape. I would love to be able to say, purchase a head shape someone has created and be able to apply it without changing my body shape as well.

Selective Avi Shape Idea
CatalinaHunter Resident
Editing shape is an odd process, somewhat archaic. But it falls flat when you try and copy, or save or update shapes. Especially when adding a new head or skin to an existing body. I'm talking about the interface, which is a very simple Database table: Body part (Torso Muscles, Neck Thickness etc.) Body section (Torso, Legs, Head etc.) value (0 to 30 etc).
When you buy a skin or a head, it often comes with a shape. But included in that shape is a full body too. Add it, and suddenly your hips and bum are massive, because the head or skin builder thought that was cute.
It would be great if you had an option to import say just the head shape (along with eyes, mouth, lips etrc.) into your current shape, not altering the existing settings (Body, Torso and Legs). I’m tired of having to write down my shape values, save them to a notecard, then enter them all in again.
So maybe a selective save, and a selective import.
Sure, this maybe needs an overhaul of shape permissions, but why not.

This has been suggested on Canny before, at least one of them has quite a few votes.

When you suddenly get the best idea ever, don't forget to use the Search function here on Canny to see if someone had the same idea before.

Great idea. So simple and handy. Perhaps include zones of mix/match, ie, legs, pelvis, arms, etc.

Need ability to upload photo and get new head

Look up Dr Frank-Shape combiner on the MP.
The original for 10L and not the one being sold for 3988L. Works great.
Cuddles Supply
Rowan Amore I think its available on github. the $10L is more of a donation thing. Still, I use it all the time and its worth far more then $10L. Not $3988 though. ;-)

Rowan Amore Thanks for the suggestion, I had no idea this was available and I just bought it to try.
SL Feedback
Thanks for taking the time to write up this request for selective shape saving/importing (e.g., applying only head sliders from a new head/skin shape without overwriting your existing body/legs/torso settings). This is something that’s come up before—your post is a duplicate of
BUG-216131
from Second Life’s previous bug tracking system
.To keep all discussion and use-cases in one place, we’ll mark your report as
Tracked
under BUG-216131
. We don’t have an ETA to share, but consolidating feedback there helps the team evaluate the impact and prioritize improvements to shape workflows. We appreciate the clear example of the current pain point (included shapes unintentionally changing hips/bum, needing to manually record slider values, etc.). Please feel free to add any extra details (viewer version, whether you’re using XML shape export/import, and what “sections” you’d want—head/eyes/mouth vs body/legs/torso) to help strengthen the tracked item.

While a interesting idea, one concern that just came to mind is would this result in out inventories suddenly having the amount of body shapes double and heavily inflate our inventories when they get split in half?

Merging shape assets
Nyx Onyx
When having bought a new head, keeping the body - or having bought a new body, but want to keep on using one's head, it is often recommended to use the shape asset that comes with the parts.
It would simplify things if we could merge shape assets, as in, selecting two shape assets, choosing "create merged copy", and then select categories and / or values from the one or the other to keep in the new copy.
This should of course respect the permissions from the most restrictive asset chosen: no-mod, as well as no-copy shape assets cannot be merged at all. If any of the shape assets have no-trans, the resulting shape asset will also be no-trans.
