For $49... allow us to pick our full name

With respect: Linden Lab allows us to change our name for the "modest" fee of almost $50 (for a fully automatic data process that takes about 3 miliseconds of processing time). ; )
Doesn't that fee warrant us being able to choose our last name as well? I want the name I've used since 2005: Snoots Dwagon... not Snoots Resident, Snoots Fairegoer, or some other LL-dictated last name. At that rather significant fee (just to automatically change one piece of data), this would seem a reasonable request, does it not?
While we're on the subject, wouldn't it be customer-friendly to reduce that $50 price to something far more reasonable... for a very simple, automated data change? Is $20 not sufficient?
With respect, sometimes we would like to see decisions made that consider the good of the customer instead of "how can we squeeze more gold from the goose?". Linden Lab is already very profitable... and the economy has not yet fully recovered. "Put yourself in the shoes of the customer" is the key to profitable business. A profitable business associate once told me: Always put the customer first... and the money will follow (as well as improved customer loyalty).

Premium plus members able to add any name
Dwermer Resident
It would be nice if premium plus members would be able to change their names to anything (within reason). ATM the selection of name to choose from on the list is very limited. Thanks

I agree, it would be pretty cool to be able to use any surname we want. Please LL make this possible!

Surname option for name change.

Feature Request: Custom Surname Option for Display Name Changes
I’d like to propose an enhancement to the Premium and Plus name change feature: the ability for users to create a custom surname in addition to selecting from the existing list.
While I understand and respect the current system of rotating surname options—and the associated fee structure—I believe offering a custom surname option could add meaningful value to users while creating a new revenue opportunity for Linden Lab. This could be implemented as a tiered system: a standard fee for choosing from the curated list, and a higher fee for creating a unique, user-defined surname.
To prevent overuse or abuse of the feature, you might consider:
• A cooldown period between name changes
• A limited number of custom changes per account per year
• An optional fee to revert to a previously used name
Many long-term residents, myself included, find that the available surnames don’t always reflect our identity or branding needs. By offering a custom option—even at a premium—it would provide greater personalization without undermining the current system.
If there are technical or policy reasons this hasn’t been implemented, I’d genuinely be interested in understanding the limitations. Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Let me buy my choice if name
MzAllison Resident
I would love the opportunity to purchase the name I want instead of the ones offered. I've been resident forever and I would like the option.

And please, LL, stop with all the goofy surnames. I don't want a last name of Suntoad, Whirlybird or Kangaroo (I hope to the gods they don't use any of these LOL). While I don't mind most of the more fanciful surnames, so many of them are just, well - goofy. Give us more normal surnames to choose from. The idea of my avi and my husband's having the same last "normal" name outweighs the loss of a couple of legacy surnames.

I agree the cost for a name change is pretty ridiculous. The options are mostly silly goofy stuff. What would be the problem with someone just choosing a last name for themselves the same as the choose a first instead of picking from a list? On Top of that, whats up with new avatars not getting a last name at all?

I don't want to change my name but It would be nice to see some more people with the name I have. There used to be a loose family of people with the same name but most of them have left SL. It was a kind of marker of age but SL has gone on so long with so many more names I doubt it has the same significance now.

Agreed. It is crazy you can't.

What I'd like to see (and this would also solve Mariana's problem) is to be allowed to have the option of buying the current crop of names, AND the ones that were available when you joined.
I started SL with my main (Kat) and an alt male (who is now Terry Pratchett). I grabbed the Heartsong name for Kat immediately, but the common male name I wanted for my male alt to go with Heartsong was taken.
Thing is .. .there is no where that indicated that last names were available for a limited time only and by the time came around I had decided on a variation of that name Heartsong was no longer available. Ever again.
So please, the names when you joined and the current crop or ... let me buy the Heartsong last name for him. I'd pay a stupid amount of money for that privilege. I'd be willing to pay double what the most expensive name change costs ... I'd pay US$100 just to be able to grab the Heartsong name again for my male alt.
I don't see the
technical
reason it's not possible to have previous names available. Thanks.Like Mariana said .. that one mistake as a newbie ... not knowing the name vanished and I'd never be able to get it ... is literally the saddest and most frustrating memory I have of SL. It makes me emotional even writing this sharing what an idiot I was starting SL.

Katherine Heartsong it's ALWAYS been that names are available for limited time ánd how many users sign up for it.

I have built databases with names. Every avatar has a unique key to identify them. The name does not matter to the database. It should not cost anything for a user to change their name anytime they want.
Izzatooona Enthusiast
FredMergatroid Resident Agreed! It costs me $75.00 Canadian every time I want to change my name, and I have a few times because I like it. It's a lot of money for a UUID that remains the same. It's just a label. I find it extremely frustrating.
