Limit no object entry to the same as ban lines

Aviation in Second life can be a deeply frustrating experience. The other big issue besides unlimited-height security orbs is no object entry parcels. Unlike ban lines, no object entry applies to the parcel at all altitudes. If you encounter a no-object-entry parcel, your vehicle stops immediately, and its physics are altered to remove any motion or forces applied to it. The practical effect of this is that an airplane stops in midair, and there's no way to get it flying again: even editing it so that it would move away from the no-entry parcel just makes it hang in midair, so you wind up having to unsit and delete it. As with security orbs, there's no way to know in advance that you're about to have this problem.
I would like to see the no object entry attribute limited to the same effective height as ban lines. Ban lines can be seen in advance and avoided at altitudes where they are effective (especially with some third party viewers that show nearby banned parcels on the minimap). If I'm flying above the ban line height limit, this would no longer be an issue with that change in place.

Yes. This would also align with the covenant on Linden Homes.

Please don't. This is the only thing stopping my neighbors from shoving their stuff on my parcel. Especial in the sky where they seem to have no clue where my land starts and their land ends. It would force me to use autoreturn on all my parcels and that is a huge problem too because it would return stuff people rezzed on my land on my request. This would break SL for me. There is a reason this function was once created, and that reason is relevant in the sky too. It is off by default, so when people turn it on it is because they want this. You can't just overrule that because some want to fly.
Tonya Souther
Micaela Amore OK, so how do you propose to make aviation doable without totally breaking someone who just wants to peacefully fly over your parcel?
If you've got neighbor encroachment problems, then those need to be addressed, either with your neighbors or with LL. But please don't break a widely used activity to solve a local problem.
Micaela Amore
Hey Tonya, you say "But please don't break a widely used activity to solve a local problem." I can counter that easily by saying "you want to break a widly used tool to solve personal problem" The thing is that object entry blocks are way more needed in the sky then they are on ground level. I tried to explain my neighbors how to see borders in the sky, but I can't make them understand. I even used pictures to show how to do this in the firestorm menu... And I obviously do not get LL involved because they do not mean it badly. (and if I did they would probably tell me to do what I already did, to just close object entry...) There are other reasons to close object entry too, like if your neighbor has build open and their parcel is used to grief you, while you have build closed. Or your neighbor is grieved and the stuff they autorezz on their parcel spills in to your parcel. It is also not about just me, that I talk to my neighbors and all will be fine. This will effect way more people then the aviation community has. In the end you fly over other peoples land, land they are paying for. It is just wrong to me if they lose part of their tools just because some want to fly in sl. Also, I never tested it, but am pretty sure that if you wear a plane as part of your outfit, you will not be affected by object entry blocks, so that could be a solution. There are planes like that being sold on mp, but the choice of plains is very limited. I suppose LL could make something that you could pas an object entry block when you are sitting on an object, but I fear this will make grieving a lot easier. Sorry to go against this, because I do understand your position, and I do want you to enjoy your flying.
Tonya Souther
Micaela Amore There are problems with wearing an aircraft, starting with the fact that those aircraft that are wearable are all very, very old and have terrible physics. I'm not sure that it is possible to have realistic aircraft physics in a wearable. (And yes, there are very realistic aircraft: Shergood Aviation's helicopters are all fantastically realistic, to the point they're hard to fly! But very rewarding once you do learn how.)
Just as in RL you can't stop aircraft flying over your house, the same should apply to SL. In RL, there are rules about how low you can fly, and a no-entry height limit would be analogous in SL. (In RL, you are prohibited from flying below 1000 feet above the tallest obstruction within 2000 feet horizontally in congested areas, 500 feet above ground level in non-congested areas, and 500 feet away from any object or person in sparsely populated areas or over water. Landing and taking off are obvious exceptions.)
As with security orbs and llTeleportHome(), I wouldn't object to limiting this to objects that are sat on or even objects that are sat on and are moving due to applied physical forces. That would solve the problem with invisible, unavoidable barriers stopping an aircraft mid-flight while also avoiding the problems you mention.

Okay Tonya, I read what you said and understand you. I'm going to let this rest now from my end, because I do not want to be dragged in whole discussion on this. I do not have any more objections to add to what I already said anyway. To be clear, I do not mind that people fly over my parcel, at any height, as long as they do not crash in my home ha ha. Hope you can enjoy your flying.
Tonya Souther
Micaela Amore Oh, I don't want to crash into your home! After all, a good landing is one you can walk away from, and a great landing is one where you get to use the aircraft again...

Micaela Amore You can protect rezzed objects on your parcel while enabling auto-return by using a group on the land. Problem solved.
Yes, encroachment is a thing. I see builds at 3,900 meters on Belli that space multiple parcels. Shameful.

soxybot0001 Resident. this does not work when you have friends of you rez stuff on your land that is not in a group. And I have a ton of that on my land. So the problem is not solved.

Micaela Amore You

add them to the group. If you want to have different set of people with different rights, then you create specific roles and assign friends to roles.Micaela Amore
soxybot0001 Resident , sight, thanks for the "tip" but I do know how things work in sl... Number of groups are limited and not every one wants to enter a group to do you the pleasure of placing things on your land.
