You should review the matching proposal I put forwards a couple years ago (back on Jira), and have referred to often — and would work just fine here, too.
Basically, all that would be needed would be a version with an additional "match type" integer, and you can chose from the current exact full match, partial matches, regex, "glob" if they toss that in (what I think you're essentially referring to), and anything else they decide to add into the mechanism in the future. (My idea was basically a "one matching system to rule them all" drop-in framework that works wherever it's needed, and a naming convention of adding "Ex" — for "EXtended matching".)
Lua(u) might add a new option, too, if the parameter can carry it's own search mechanism (there's a few languages you can look to for examples).

Hello, and thank you for your feature request regarding adding wildcard or regular expression support to llSensor(). This idea has been brought up in the past and is currently tracked. We understand the importance of enhancing the utility of sensors in LSL, especially for scenarios where you need to filter objects with similar but not identical names. While we have no estimate on when this feature might be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
