On-demand regions

As a creator who already pays for a large community region, sometimes I want to dip for a while and have some private space to build.
It's not economic to pay for another full region to be up all the time. Mainland homes and Premium homes are nice but too small for creating and have neighbors. Similarly, sandbox regions lack privacy.
I'd like to be able to spin up a region that only exists for as long as I'm in it and pay only for that usage rather than have it be on all the time and the associated costs.
Ideally, some way to backup the rezzed contents of the region would be present, so I can pick up where I left off. Better yet make a region save state an inventory asset so I can switch between different environments quickly.

On-Demand Private Regions (Premium Plus Perk)

I would like to suggest a new land product for Second Life: on-demand private regions (homestead+full).
The idea would be to introduce a lower-cost class of private region that does not need to be running all the time. Instead, the region could wake when the owner or visitors arrive, stay active while people are using it, and then go back to sleep after a period of inactivity.
This reduces costs considerably for LL and opens the door to those that want to use a private region for true personal use!
This could make private land feel MUCH more accessible again for residents who would love to have their own creative space, but cannot justify the current monthly cost of a full private region or Homestead.
A possible price point / structure could be:
- On-Demand Homestead Region: around $20/month
- On-Demand Full Region: around $80/month
- Available as a Premium Plus benefit (obviously it would be better for everyone, but this is the only way I could see it being competitive for LL)
- No or reduced setup fee
- Sleeps when empty
- Wakes when someone teleports in or accesses it
- Lower script, avatar, and/or commercial limits than traditional always-on regions
- Positioned for personal, creative, RP, photography, events, showcases, and small community use
To avoid competing too directly with existing private estates and always-on regions, these could have sensible limits, such as:
- no subletting or rental use
- limited or no parcel subdivision
- lower avatar cap (specifically the full region product)
- scripts paused while the region is asleep
- limited commercial search/classified use
- an easy upgrade path to a normal always-on region
I think this could fill a really important gap between Linden Homes and full private regions.
Linden Homes are lovely and useful, but they do not replace the feeling of having a blank creative region to build on. Mainland can be wonderful in its own chaotic way, but it can also be difficult to navigate, inconsistent, or simply not suitable for what someone wants to create. Meanwhile, full private regions and Homesteads are amazing, but their current monthly costs put them out of reach for many residents who would otherwise love to build, host, roleplay, photograph, or experiment.
An on-demand region product could bring more people into land ownership without needing to reduce the price of existing always-on regions. It would also make Premium Plus feel much more exciting by giving members access to a genuinely meaningful creative benefit.
Most importantly, this could encourage residents who currently pay nothing for land to become paying land customers. At a lower price point, many more people might be willing to maintain a personal region, a small RP setting, a photography space, a seasonal build, a showcase, or just a little corner of Second Life that is entirely their own.
In short: please consider giving Premium Plus members access to affordable, sleepable private regions for personal and creative use, while keeping always-on regions as the premium option for commercial, rental, and high-traffic needs!
I think this could make land feel exciting, accessible, and creatively alive again! And that would be wonderful for Second Life. :)

Customize regions similar to how you can customize virtual private server instances
Nyx Onyx
I'm pretty sure I've posted this before, but can't find it, so here we go again....
I'm not a fan of being locked into fixed offerings for regions. I might not need to support a hundred residents at once, and I might not need a lot of performance, but I might need a lot of land impact capacity. Or I need any other combination of the three.
I'd like to be able to, when ordering or modifying a region, set the above-mentioned and be billed accordingly.
* I suggest a slider for performance, with an indicator of the cost for it and helpful suggestions for how much one might need depending on example use cases. Maybe in some unit of 1-5 where One is similar to today's Openspace Regions, and Five got performance like event regions.
* I suggest a slider for a maximum number of resident / agents on the region, with an indicator of the cost for it. I imagine this could range from 10 up to whatever is technically prudent, might be limited on the high side by the performance slider.
* I suggest a slider for a maximum number of land impact, again with an indicator of price impact. I can see this being provided in a thousand Land Impact increments up to whatever is technically the limit, and perhaps also limited on the high side by the performance slider, if relevant.
Dictatorshop Resident
I would love to be able to have this to use as a dev sim. It
only
needs to be active when I am building item for my shop and then I am not building in the open where anybody can come along and look at what I am working on.Crexon Resident
While I dont think this is a bad idea and could be something alot of people might like, Keep in mind that any and all scripts rely on the region saying active. When the region dies, as in is spun down and goes offline. So do those scripts so just be advise it may break certain items.

Hello, and thank you for your detailed feature request regarding on-demand regions. This idea has been brought up in the past and is currently tracked. We understand the need for a flexible and cost-effective solution for creators who require private space without the ongoing expense of a full region. While we have no estimate on when this feature might be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. Your input is invaluable, and we appreciate your commitment to improving Second Life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
