Premium Badge should be a choice to show.

Premium badges show on profiles and some don't want people knowing they pay for that. Not everyone wants people to know they are praying for an account. Some in SL don't want people to know they have a home. Some don't want other rl members to see they actually paid for a virtual account. There are many reasons. It should be a choice of whether you want to show that. I know I will not pay for that to be displayed.

This is one of those requests that make all the sense to me — as much as possible should be 'opt-in', especially when it comes to what might be considered a privacy issue.
While I understand that LL might love to show off to fellow residents as many Premium accounts as possible — it's a cheap way of advertising their 'customer upselling' feature — there is no other motivation for displaying that publicly on a profile.
There are lots of inconsistencies (mostly due to legacy code) here and there. There
might
be a reason to allow Premium accounts through, while having Basic accounts be excluded. As we all know, Premium accounts are placed on a special queue when trying to log in and/or teleport to a region which is near capacity (Premium Pro have even more priority). It is conceivable, therefore, that someone might to give "provileged" access to, say, a popular club, which would require scripting some kind of orb, and there are facilities in LSL which allow just that. But this has nothing to do with the profile
(even assuming, for the sake of the argument, that there are
legitimate reasons for doing such an exclusion).By contrast, filtering avatar entry by date and/or information on file is a way to deal with griefers and their legions of alts. Granted,
professional
griefers — assuming this class of griefers exist at all — will cleverly register lots of alts and keep them in "cold storage" until they're a few months (or years!) old, to divert suspicion; but this is not really what the average griefer/stalker/resident with malicious intent do: they merely create an alt "on the spot".That's why there are options on private islands (and not only there) for limiting the entry in a parcel to residents who aren't suspected malicious alts and therefore few days old. The same applies to residents without information on file: if LL has
some
information on file (even fake!), we can at least know there is a way to report that person iRL as well, even if we're unable to do so directly.Conversely, if we see 'clueless newbies' around, who are just a few days old, we're a bit more tolerant towards their behaviour. You'd be surprised at how kind residents are towards some newbies. I bring often my students in-world and sometimes they wander around aimlessly and hopelessly lost; there is often someone who sends me a kind IM saying that my students are lost somewhere. Therefore, showing your SL age on the profile automatically serves a quite useful purpose!

Personally, I would also love to see 'bots flagged as such. Since flagging a bot as a bot is a trivial operation from the account dashboard — but one that requires 'opting in' — why can't a badge for a bot be displayed as well? It wouldn't hurt the
legitimate
bots, since all of these are
registered as such, and their owners will
write something on their profiles explaining that they're bots and not humans. Sure, there are — and there will always be — unregistered bots, and those couldn't show any badges, obviously. But that's always the case — criminals aren't wearing badges saying they're criminals, after all (especially if they haven't been caught yet!). It's like expecting griefers or stalkers or scammers to automatically get a badge for their malicious activity; instead, when they're found and reported, they'll face expulsion and a ban.But I agree that this is not always consistent. Having an option to turn the Premium badge on and off is perfectly logic; it's the kind of information that is irrelevant, since, except for logging in and teleporting in to a region, Premium users have no real reason to "stand out" in the crowd as such. They aren't "special" in any way. They aren't even necessarily the residents that pay most to LL — since ownership of private islands these days do not require anything beyond having payment info on file (since they
will
have to pay their tier using US$). And of course there are those who sometimes spend hundreds of US dollars in-world anyway — who might have zero interest in being a regular
paying customer or Linden Lab
, since they prefer to spend their money on resident-created content instead. So... displaying a Premum flag doesn't mean a thing, even reputation.wise.However, there are
some
reasons for optionally
displaying other
kinds of badges, and I leave as an exercise to the reader to search a bit around Canny for further "badge requests"... 😏Gryphon Ronas
I have been in SL pretty much every day for 12-15 hours a day for 15 years and I have never seen a Premium badge on a profile and I have never had anyone ever even seem to take notice of my Premium status, nor have I ever cared if anyone knew. I just don't see the point in this. Maybe next we will want to hide rez-dates and names?

I'm happy to have my lifetime premium badge displayed, but I can understand why others might not want to show that. It's a yes from me.

Issue tracked. We have no estimate when it may be implemented. Please see future updates here.
Darling Brody
I'm pretty sure this was implemented as a "status symbol" that is intended to be considered desirable to encourage us all to become premium. I don't think it is a big deal as we can already see if someone has payment info on file and if they have used the payment info too. It is a nice way to weed out griefers too.
I am in favor of this being available to scripts and visible in profiles too. SL has a long history of identifying those of us who financially contribute to the platform and I think that tradition should continue.
Jennifer Boyle
I have carefully looked over two profiles of people I know have premium accounts, and I can see nothing that indicates that they do. What am I missing? What does this "badge "look like? Where does it appear?
SparkleSpice Resident
How would you suggest they implement this?
Even if they removed it from the user profile it's still possible to use this script function to obtain it: llGetObjectDetails - OBJECT_ACCOUNT_LEVEL
And removing or modifying it would break existing experiences/products which rely on that function to work!
Not saying that I disagree but I can't imagine a way to implement this without breaking stuff
Melodie Heartsong
indeed. this is a privacy issue and disclosure of such information should not be happening
Darling Brody
Melodie Heartsong It has been happening since the very beginning with payment into on file and payment info used visible. If you want privacy, make an alt and send it money from your main.
VenKellie Resident
Darling Brody that's kinda nasty. we deserve some privacy in SL. shouldn't have to make a alt to hide some info in our profile.

Fair comment. I agree with this post

This sounds like a great idea! I don't like how many donation boxs show people's ID's for the same reasons.
Kameo McCullough
I especially agree with Paige's point about donation boxes/tip jars. Showing that someone donated 1000 Lindens can make the next person, who can only afford to give 20 Lindens, feel obligated to donate more than they can afford or feel that their donation won't be worthwhile. The point of a donation is to show your appreciation to the person you're tipping, not to show how much discretionary funds you have. Thank folks publicly for their generosity, but keep the amounts to yourself.
Prisqua Newall
Kameo McCullough I so agree with this statement.
Shadow Siamendes
Kameo McCullough I don't think it has anything to do with the request here. Those boxes depends on how the author scripted it, LL has nothing to do with that. Although I also agree those boxes should keep that info private.
Darling Brody
Shadow Siamendes The donation boxes share the info for the same region LL make premium status visible, to encourage others to do the same. I agree with LL on this one.

Darling Brody they say if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it at all
