Search within coalesced items
tracked
Sterling Ronzoni
Many times our items are returned to us as a coalesced group and then, sometime later, we can't find a critical item in our inventory and suspect that it might be within a coalesced group but have no ability to do a simple search to find that missing item- without having to rez multiple different coalesced groups trying to find the missing item.
There should be a simple way to search inventory from within the inventory window to locate an item that is a hidden part of a coalesced group.
If a global coalesced inventory search is impractical, there should be a way to right-click on a coalesced group to easily view a listing of the names of all of the coalesced items within that group without having to rez anything.

That can not be done, the coalesced is a set of data pointers, the assets are spread across the data files as UUID pointers. It is a kin to seperating and identifying ingredients in a banquet.

steph Arnott,
Logically speaking, if the assets can be rezzed then they can be listed.
Just need a subroutine to follow the pointers and grab the data.
It can be done but might take a bit more than just a viewer tweak.
steph Arnott
Logically speaking, you could simply put the stuff in a rezzer box as backup, Rezz2 is free and simwide capable.

Unfortunately, that idea would not solve the heading issue of locating a missing item that may be within one of many possible, coalesced groups.

Well, you should get organised and make records, the system can not do what you want for the same reason I can not read binary data code

Hahahaha, funny answer. Maybe we should just buy plastic AVs and walk them around tables with camera coverage?
Just because you can't read binary data code doesn't mean that no one can.
It's a good thing that the Lindens had a can-do attitude with a great deal of imagination and desire or there would be no SL. :)
steph Arnott
Linden can not unscramble eggs and put each back in its original shell and you could not read the binary data of a coalesce, no human can.

Those eggs can't be too scrambled since the coalesced items can all be rezzed inworld intact.
Because humans have limitations, is the reason why cavemen invented tools. EVERYTHING on our computers is based on binary data. It's a good thing that we have tools so we can use that data or you would not be able to read this very comment and be able to tell me that no human can read it. :)

That would be amazing...

Problem is, if you name the group, all the items have that name. Not sure if the item's data still includes the original name.
Sterling Ronzoni
Kira Skydancer,
I believe that you are thinking of grouped items as opposed to coalesced.

Absolutely this !
