Wearable PBR Reflection Probes?
SarahKB7 Koskinen
Many publicly accessible regions don't have PBR Reflection Probes rezzed inside them yet and this can negatively affect the way an avatar, vehicle or building or object appears. Especially so in no-rez areas where you can't rez a probe temporarily.
I have experimented with making a wearable PBR Reflection Probe attachment which is worn on the avatar centre attachment point. It actually works very well - but for only as long as I don't move around!
The problem is, as soon as an avatar moves, the Probe no longer updates or functions and will only work again if you reattach it again and remain static!
But what if wearable Probes could be made to work while mobile? Is this even possible?
Could mobile and wearable PBR Reflection Probes be researched and developed further?

No. This would just become the next facelight problem. Get in touch with the owners or maintainers of the area and implore that they properly probe their spaces.

The "Reflection coverage" setting addresses the exact issue this describes. If it doesn't for you, report a bug with a reproduction case (place, settings used) so it can be improved.

Shits Lit Can you give more information about this setting? I've never heard of it, or even know where to find it.

Regardless of viewer please use the latest version available for the best performance and fewest weird bugs.
The reflection coverage setting determines which reflection probes should be used, or even created for you. For the best visual results in any place the "Everything" setting is recommended.
In photography settings where you want full control and only to use manual probes a setting of "Manual only" may be desired.
When the setting is toggled to "Everything" the viewer creates "fake" probes called autoprobes all throughout existing builds. These only exist in your viewer and aren't on the region itself so it does not require the builder to update their entire build to include manual probes in every cases, however skyboxes usually benefit the most from manual probe placement. Manually placed probes will take precedence over autoprobes.
Bonus tip: unless you want to lower your framerate for what is usually not a worthy improvement to graphics, "Reflection detail" should never be set to "realtime" under any circumstances. The only real exception here I've seen are cases of strong atmospheric lighting being applied to the scene via probes.
Sorry for the wall of text lol

Updating reflection probes is an expensive task. What you are asking for is effectively a wearable "real time" probe, which is very expensive to update. There is definitely ways to "optimize it", but imagine the scenario where everyone is wearing a probe in a 50+ agent region. That's 50 real time probes having to update, which will severely impact the frame rate.
Regions already have automatic probes, so wearing a reflection probe is unnecessary, even for areas that have no manual reflection probes.
Wearable probes as you experimented with is not a intended feature, and is considered a bug that will be fixed.
This is hard no from me.
