Why does mesh take so extremely long to rez?

Even a basic one-prim mesh takes ruddy ages to rez. Seems to me there's a system bottleneck somewhere. This affects everything that is mesh-oriented, including avatars. But even the simplest mesh items can take a full minute or more to rez.

Hello, and thank you for your feature request.
Incoming suggestions are reviewed in the order they are received by a team of Lindens with diverse areas of expertise. We consider a number of factors: Is this change possible? Will it increase lag? Will it break existing content? Is it likely that the number of residents using this feature will justify the time to develop it? This wiki page further describes the reasoning we use: Feature Requests
This particular suggestion, unfortunately, cannot be tackled at this time. However, we regularly review previously deferred suggestions when circumstances change or resources become available.
We are grateful for the time you took to submit this feature request. We hope that you are not discouraged from submitting others in the future. Many excellent ideas to improve Second Life come from you, our residents. We can’t do it alone.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Second Life.

Well, what can I say?
The mere fact that LL has increased the maximum size for textures, which, fortunately, not everyone uses yet, to 2k, quadruples the data volume considerably. I've tested it: It usually doesn't look much better than before, if at all.
Maybe for tattoos, if you set it up.
For the face: No difference (tested with LAQ 2K textures)
Is it actually the mesh or the textures? I'd say it's much more the textures than the meshes, but I could be wrong. ;)

A minute would be fabu. While doing hunts some mesh hunt items just don't rez- have to log in& out / TP in and out of store to try to get item to rez --other folks send snaps showing the item IS there -right in front of me - and they may even be on worse systems then mine .
In a few cases the item never appeared. It's a real time and fun killer. I keep my ARC and settings low. Have a good machine.
Why the lag -that can be up to eternity ?

Depends on your broadband, viewer, computer specs and several other things. Data packets contain a lot of data and at times there are so many that the comp/BB etc can not cope.

steph Arnott The mesh rezzing being discussed is a regular thing. I have a gamer desktop with 300mbps Internet, fast i5 processor, GeForce 3060 12 gig graphics card. So I'd say there's a bottleneck on SL when it comes to mesh rezzing. And I have to wonder why they closed this. I REALLY wonder about that. Are they telling us "This is as good as it's gonna get"?

Textures are a huge bottleneck for all downloads. Whenever you arrive in a sim you are downloading literally gigabytes of just textures. More and more avatars are walking around with a gigabyte or more of textures on themselves alone. When you reduce textures in a scene everything, including mesh objects, load much faster.

eeps why we having so many issues
Holocluck Henly
Because regardless of its LI the process to render a mesh build requires data to be translated into the shape versus using proprietary prims. Servers, your computer, and your graphics card all work harder.

Make sure your bandwidth isn't set too high. That slider is UDP traffic, such as updates to objects and if new ones have occurred - if you have it so high you cant download assets or textures, you'll feel it. Also too high it may be dropping packets, and that packet might have been the mesh you hoped to load. Some complex mesh have a 5MB or so mesh file size, so they aren't very snappy.
Eren Padar
Pazako Karu Good advice Pazako, but I have a good gamer machine and good Internet. Packet transfer is good. Mesh taking too long to rez is not a user-side problem, but server-side... and is experienced by people grid-wide.
There's just no reason that a single-object, no-links mesh item should take 1 or 2 minutes to load. Rezzing should be almost instantaneous. The current level of mesh performance is unacceptable.

Some things I have that are mesh take so long to rez I give up and use something else.
