Why Second Life Needs a "True" Sequel (Without VR)
The biggest problem with Second Life (SL) is its 20-year-old engine, which causes unplayable lag and terrible vehicle physics. While games like Farm Together 2 run smoothly because they are professionally optimized, SL relies entirely on unoptimized, user-created content that is streamed in real-time.
Linden Lab tried to fix this with Sansar, but it failed for one major reason: it was obsessed with VR headsets. The core, older community did not want to sit for hours with heavy, expensive, and sweaty VR gear on their heads; they wanted to relax in front of a regular PC monitor.
The true solution is a "Second Life 2" built strictly for PC/Mac without VR constraints, using a modern engine like Unreal or Unity.
• Why it would work: It would keep the classic keyboard/mouse controls but enforce strict optimization limits on creators to completely kill lag.
• The Transition: Linden Lab should run both worlds simultaneously. As older players see that the new PC version has smooth driving, beautiful graphics, and zero lag, they would naturally migrate over, allowing the ancient, laggy engine to be phased out peacefully.
"Technology has moved on, and players want to drive, build, and connect without limits. It's time for Second Life to evolve or get left behind."
