Wind Actor for Vegetation, etc.

Enable a Wind Actor for Mesh, so vegetation and soft body rezzables can have realistic weather movement. Right now the current solution most people use is texture animation which leads to a very outdated look to SL. Alternatively, the current wind and flexy paths could be optimized for lower lag, so they could be used with mesh.

You mean this? http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlWind

RestrainedRaptor Resident Not sure what you mean yourself, but if you mean that is the solution already, no, thats not what I mean. That determines the wind velocity of the wind vector, but there is no way for it to affect anything beyond a flexi prim or a scripted trigger. Linking a flexi prim to a mesh increases the LI by an unreasonable amount. I mean enable the wind vector affecting mesh so mesh can shiver or move, so vegetation can become more realistic and less like static scenery backdrops which require the use of gimmicky and only partially effective alternatives. If you meant that wind vector could be used to achieve the results of soft body meshes being affected by the wind, yeah! Thats a possible solution.

Elicio Ember I guess you could emulate smooth motion by using animesh, with a few strategically placed rigging points on the foliage. In fact, I can't imagine doing it in any other way that doesn't involve rigging the mesh. I don't think SL is ready for dynamic mesh displacement just yet.

The downside to making it animesh is that if you go to the trouble of making a grass item using the methods required to make it as low land impact as possible, making it animesh would automatically add 15 Li to it. I do not want 17Li groundcover or 30Li trees.

This is a fantastic idea. I have wanted to see realistic weather effects for many years and this would go a long way to updating such elements (pardon the pun) in SL. Additionally, it would be possible to incorporate aspects of such a feature that would be useful for the large sailing, sea battle, pirate and RP communities that rely on wind-powered vessels. Putting the word out to my peoples. Excellent call, Elicio!

Maxwell Graf Wind that could be used for sailing would be very good. The same wind we have now, just with a bit less erratic behavior would suffice.
