Allow individually rated parcels

Some of us are tightening our belts in regards to renting land, so people purchase parcels instead of entire sims. There is a huge limitation as to what can be built or done there because it must follow the rating of the entire sim. It would be super convenient if the option existed to have parcels in one sim with different ratings.

Hello Sora! Thanks for your request. Currently, maturity ratings are applied on a per-region basis only. This system lets estate owners, including Governor Linden, set the overall maturity level for their specific region(s).
Mainland areas restrict Adult-rated content to the Zindra continent due to the nature of that content. Private region owners can apply similar restrictions to their own regions.
Before engaging in any transactions, we advise you to carefully review the location you're interested in, specifically looking at any estate covenants, the surrounding neighbors and neighborhood, and by directly contacting the landlord or seller with any concerns you may have.

Oatmeal Linden Except in Chopsaw, Ullahoo and Houlihan, where you allow public sex clubs in General and Moderate rated regions, showing in search with sexually explicit search tags, sex furniture outdoors visible from other lands, and in Houlihan also a visitor greeter that sends sexually explicit invitations to everyone far outside the parcel.

Oatmeal Linden It's been done at those locations a lot of times. It would be nice if you or another Linden could make a public statement on this issue and explain why you allow public sex clubs in General and Moderate regions since last October and why you allow adult content in General regions that 17-year-olds can access. This is raising a lot of concern lately.

AlettaMondragon Resident Thank you for filing abuse reports when you find such content. Our governance team will review any reports filed, and appreciates any information you can provide about these locations.
I, however, am a support agent reviewing bug reports and feature requests for land in Second Life, and may only recommend reporting the content you are finding via the form provided in your viewer.
You may never hear anything about any resolutions from your reporting, unless governance needs to contact you directly for an issue with your own account or content.

Oatmeal Linden Nice, you fell back to the robotic response. Still, that public statement about the failure to uphold your policies is needed, otherwise we can only make guesses as to why you allow adult content be displayed to 17-year-olds.

This is one of the worst ideas that came up here so far. There was one similar a while ago to change all General rated regions to Moderate on Mainland. This is just as bad.
The reason is that the maturity ratings exist for a reason, that is so that if you enter a region or intend to rent or buy land there you know what kind of content and behavior to expect - not only on one parcel but the entire region. So if you move to a General rated region, in theory you will not have neighbors with BDSM dungeons or sex clubs. Except of course if you move to Chopsaw, where a public sex club exists despite an ongoing abuse case for several months. So in practice you are still not protected from such things even in a General rated region because LL doesn't enforce the maturity ratings rules lately. Your suggestion would even allow this though, because what is more normal than having a sex club next door when you don't want to meet adult content in SL, right? The General rating serves two purposes, one is that real life minors can access them, the other is that adults who don't want to encounter sexual content can feel safe there too.
The same principle goes for Moderate regions as well, with the difference that sexual content is allowed but only in private, behind closed doors, and if it is not promoted in public (by search, signs, etc). This means you might get neighbors with healthy sexual habits, you might get kinky neighbors, or even true sexual deviants as long as they keep their stuff in their house or a skybox within their parcel. What you still can't get next door is a public sex club inviting people from all over the grid to have sex there (and some of course will just look at radar and IM you too if you are in the region). That is, if LL enforced the rules, but they don't, so don't move to Ullahoo just yet, as the True Blood BDSM club, a full blown public sex club with sex furniture outdoors, avatars visible from outside the parcel, which means not only the Moderate rated Ullahoo but THREE General rated water regions around it, sexually explicit search tags and even afk sex avatars on sex beds with tip jars, is there, and for about 6 months LL didn't care enough to deal with that either. That is how low they got lately.
(Continued in comment because of unnecessary character limit)

My point is, what is needed here that you understand why the maturity ratings exist and you go and get land in an appropriate region and don't force yourself upon people that don't want you and your content there if it doesn't comply with the region's maturity rating. There is nothing wrong with these rules, they are fairly simple to understand, literally the only people that break them are those who do it on purpose. Believe it or not, not everyone in SL wants to log in at home to see a BDSM club, rape shack or black supremacy sex place showed up next door overnight. Keep these things in Adult rated regions where they belong.

That's probably not going to happen, since you or your neighbors can still see things in adjacent parcels with a rating that might differ from your own. That's also why adjacent regions are also (usually) the same rating.
VriSeriphim Resident
RestrainedRaptor Resident Certainly that could be resolved by having logic that forces avatars and chat to be in-parcel only. There is already an option to prevent people in other parcels from seeing/chatting with avatars in a parcel.
AlettaMondragon Resident
VriSeriphim Resident That however doesn't help if you simply don't want someone to move in next to your home just to open a sex club. So it is very simple: no.

VriSeriphim Resident As others have said, it's not just avatars and chat that have to abide by the region's rating. It's also objects rezzed in the parcels.
You should just buy/rent some space in a region that has a rating appropriate to your most extreme needs - either Moderate or Adult.
