Block private IM in land.

As well as we can forbid voice in a land. I suggest a feature where private IM can be forbidden. To make public areas, events, parties, cafes more social. Going on many events where local chat is totally dead. Also many just do group calls on events talking in IM instead of letting others lonely visitors into a conversation. Incoming IM while on such land could be pending and viewed after leaving area.

If you want people at an event to take part in the local conversation then you have a good host who will get people interacting rather than just spamming gestures. I try and get people talking without being pushy. I dont think banning people from communicating with each other in IM is the way to go. Make your environment enticing. I sometimes go to an event to relax and to talk with my partner privately. If the local chat is interesting as it is at some clubs I will pitch in. I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks for taking the time to suggest a way to discourage “silent” venues by limiting private IM while on a parcel (with messages held until you leave). This has come up before—your request matches an older item from Second Life’s previous bug tracking system (Jira):
BUG-225222
(“Add a parcel flag to block the use of IMs between people within the parcel”).To keep all discussion and use-cases in one place, we’re marking your report as a
duplicate
and setting it to Tracked
under BUG-225222
. While we don’t have an ETA, adding your perspective (events/parties/cafes, encouraging local chat, and the idea of pending IMs) helps clarify the resident impact and desired behavior.SL Feedback
