Can we connect the snowlands of Sharp to the rest of Sharp by road?
in progress
Iskrin Nightfire
The snowlands of the Sharp continent are lovely, but the road network (which is good in most of Sharp) is unfortunately not worth driving there because it doesn't connect to the rest of the continent. Is it possible to place a bridge across the 'empty' water sims to connect the road in Mizithra, via a bridge through Lappi, Danbo, and Tenshi, to Svecia please?
Note that unfortunately, in Svecia, the connection will be challenging, as Tenshi comes in on the wrong side of the mountain! Ideally you'd want to move Bleu north of Danbo to make this connection very easily (so the connection would go Lappi, Danbo, Bleu (if it's north of Danbo)

Hi all! The trail is completed and some fun added along the route. The terrain was fairly daunting to work with, but is useable for both walking and riding. Updated landscaping is planned, and it might be good to add the rez zones at both ends (Opera and Tenshi) to the GTFO game. :-)

Oatmeal Linden Wow, impressive!

Oatmeal Linden Wow, that's some serious footpath work you did there, Oatmeal! Looks fantastic :-) This allows residents to get from the road over to the boat rez area along a very fun route. I haven't walked it all yet, but it's on my explore list for the weekend!
Thank you for taking the time to make this footpath/bridleway improvement - it is very much appreciated. I do remain hopeful that one day the full road project might happen with artist-built bridges and all; but until then, this definitely helps :-)
Thank you,
Iskrin

Oatmeal Linden Truly impressive! I walked the whole thing! We asked for bridges and you gave us BRIDGES. SL is my new favorite strand-type game :)
I definitely appreciate seeing development on our old continent, and I actually really like the trail in-case my opening seemed factitious. I do have to echo the sentiment of a proper road connection at some point though. As an aside, maybe someday we can have Oberstdorf copied over to complete a connection from Rainier to Appalachia as well? Hope.. hope will start the car :)

Oatmeal Linden - Iskrin requested a permanant bridged road link between Mizithra and Svecia. And you haven't built one. I'm very disappointed by this.
I too have examined all the existing sims and infrastructure in the area and building a bridged road between Mizithra and Svecia is 100% possible:
- Relocate Bleu sim to the east border of Svecia. Bleu is a completely empty unparcelled water region. The two boat rez zones mentioned are not in Bleu, which is unaffected. Boats could still be rezzed in Tenshi and sailed through Tenshi , Danbo and Lappi. Bleu is a redundant "spare" sim which can easily be moved. Nothing will be lost by moving Bleu.
- Build a new road (bridge) eastwards from Svecia into the newly moved Bleu and then southwards from Bleu into Danbo, then up onto the Lappi and Reggiano hillside and finally joining to the existing road in Mizithra.
- Long long ago back in the Teen SL days, the Bleu sim used to have its own "Prim Rig", a copy of the original one from the ANWR region between Sansara and Heteocera continents. Please put a replica/copy of the TSL/ANWR Prim Rig back into Bleu too!
There. Please complete the objectives of the original request.

Oatmeal Linden "Fun" = hairy and perilous. Thank you for the challenge. :o)

Oatmeal Linden Hello again! I saw the start of your project in Opera and I'm sorry if I'm jumping the gun by misinterpreting where you're taking it, but if you intend that zig-zag path to be the road, I strongly urge against it.
For the snowlands connection to provide true value it needs to be a continuation of the existing Linden road, with the same dimensions and navigable continuously by car. I maintain that the best connection would be achieved by moving the now completely empty Bleu from south of Tenshi to the East of Svecia, and constructing a marine highway that crosses through the water sims that way.
It'll save you a lot of construction headaches with the mountain, circumvent difficult to navigate and awkwardly steep winding paths, and won't necessitate compositionally out of place structures that interfere with the existing residents of those sims (Svecia/Opera is a terraforming eyesore as is, and the addition of more megastructures to it will not improve this)
All the best to ya, and thanks for taking the time to work on it. I'm not trying to be overly critical, just a long term resident of the area who wants to see this done in a way that enhances these regions. My offer to donate building work to this project stands.

Mirror Mondegreen: Hello Mirror! I have reviewed the regions you proposed moving around, and discovered that moving Bleu would make two water rez zones in neighboring regions unusable.
The current route makes use of existing protected parcels in Lappi and Tenshi. Unfortunately, the route will not be very useful for large vehicles, as that slope I have prims climbing is very extreme. :-)
Thank you for the offer to assist with building for Second Life. You may wish to consider joining our other Resident contractors on the Content Creation team, the Moles. This wiki article has information for what this team does and how to apply:

Oatmeal Linden: I actually really like Mirror Mondegreen's idea. I think you if you move the boat rez zone from the SW corner of Tenshi to the NE, you have access to all of the water. I think boating around under the bridge would be a lot of fun, especially since the Lindens got rid of the oil rig a while back in Bleu unfortunately. I think some more scenic pieces like a bridge in the ocean sims would actually make it super attractive and fun to boat around!
Mirror Mondegreen
Subzidion Nightfire This ingenious solution was actually Iskrin's, not mine - I just drafted a map that planned a potential version of the route, but thank you! I think the Lindens have other things in mind but I agree that the shifted-region bridge makes the most sense for harmony between road and waterways users!

Oatmeal Linden "moving Bleu would make two water rez zones in neighboring regions unusable."
Incorrect. The Tenshi, Danbo and Lappi sims would be unaffected and neither boat rez zone would be made unusable by moving Bleu sim.
Iskrin Nightfire
Ohhh, I just found a parcel of land on the mountains ear-marked for the Linden Road Project! So exciting! :-)

I second Mirror's proposal for Bleu, Tenshi, Danbo, Lappi. That would be a good way to connect those sims - Especially since Bleu has become an empty water sim. Shifting it up and constructing the road makes sense.

Hey everyone,
I recognize that Lindens and Moles have their hands full with a variety of bigger projects, and rather than let this go to the bottom of the pile simply because it's not a necessity, propose a third alternative:
I'm part of a group of long term resident artists interested in this area who would like to volunteer to build the bridge and waystation, much in the same way residents were allowed to donate the build for Linden combat sim Concord in 2008. If the Lindens are amenable to this, we will draft some architecture for the area.
Below is a proposed map of the area development, seconding Iskrin's very sensible suggestion that Bleu, now bare of its copy of the ANWR primoleum rig and thus open for a new practical use, be moved North of Danbo (Grid position 1175, 992) to allow the most logical path for the connection.
This is also an excellent time to fix some of the long-term terraforming artifacts in Lappi, and Lappi's biggest island would be an excellent place to build the aforementioned waystation, which I suggest most of all to make the transition between the snow road textures and the mountain set less jarring, as there can be an elegant termination of the two.
Cheers, and all the best,
Mirror

Mirror Mondegreen I would also really like to see this done, as I am gearing up to set up a road-side Get The Freigh Out hub that would start off the first series of hubs on Sharp, which would bring in some GTFO shipping enthusiasts.
Mirror Mondegreen
Grave Resident Thanks for the support Grave! Stoked to see your hub builds on the continent, hopefully we'll someday be able to cross it from end to end on foot

In doing that, it would be great to also put in some water from North Gaeta to Corsica and have every single one of all the continents connected. that way you can fly or sail all the way.

Thank you Iskrin.
I was able to look at the area briefly and it does seem possible to do what you are proposing. We need to look deeper into the details and then can make the call on whether this something we want to move forward with.
Iskrin Nightfire
Thanks so much Abnor :-). I realise not everything fits within the many plans you all work hard on to bring to fruition, so I appreciate very much that you are reviewing this suggestion to see whether it's feasible and worthwhile. Sharp is such a wonderful continent!
