Second Life needs a Cool Soundtrack

Second Life needs a built-in original soundtrack. You could have cool ambient vibes when logging in, exciting beats when teleporting. It would greatly add to the immersion and atmosphere when doing anything in SL. Imagine zoning out to cool tunes when teleporting or the excitement of zooming through Blake Sea with cool electronic tempo. I urge you to upvote this important proposal.

I cannot in good conscience support this because you know fine well that Linden Lab will do a half-assed implementation of it. We'll probably have to turn off all sounds to get rid of what several of us might end up seeing as annoying music that interferes with the music we'd rather be listening to. You know fine well that Linden Lab won't implement this properly. They'll just put it into sounds, and if you want to get rid of it, you're going to have to turn off sounds entirely, or something equally ham fisted.

Does anyone recall the sound track for EQ?
I loved all of the various theme songs (please make them better than those, 25 years later though!)

Hello Charlemagne! Thank you for the suggestion. We are marking this as tracked for future considerations for changes to how parcel settings and viewer preferences currently function.
Land owners may determine if they wish to include streaming media, and the viewer may be set to auto-play media when on a parcel.

Oatmeal Linden That's great. There also could be more sounds built into client than traditional teleport, paid, etc notifications.

Elevator Music not a good idea
Charlemagne Allen
Jack Dreamer Look at Minecraft for example of good ambient music.

That all depends on what the individual thinks suits their experience. Would you like to listen to my daily choice of worship music?

If you look for them, there are things called "soundscapes" that you can add that you can choose for the ambience. This is client side only, so only You hear the sounds or music and you can tailor it to exactly what you want to hear at any given time. I can't think of anything more distressing than to listen to what someone/s thought was fabulous music and sound all over sl. that would make the whole place bland to me.
Garnet Psaltery
Jonny MinotaurisIt would make it a nightmare to me.
Jonny Minotauris
Garnet Psaltery Agreed.

Immersion? Perhaps I'm too old to understand how that would work, and be enjoyable for majority of residents. We're all coming from a wide variety of ages and cultures. After a week, the novelty wears off. I am willing to bet that "how do I disable those sounds" would be a top question in help group chats.
Create your own personal soundtrack that you can trigger when you do the actions you speak of. Create a way of sharing or selling it, so others can use if they desire. Perhaps this is a niche product you could work with!

Considering that I already have to mute parcel streams when they don't match my personal tastes, now I'd have someone else's idea of cool music every time I do something?
"It's a no from me, dawg."
misstoriblack Resident
That's up to the terrain you are on to have "radio" or something else equivalent.
Charlemagne Allen
misstoriblack ResidentNot a great solution. You have to accept the stream and then it goes away once you hit a border. Not fun at all.
misstoriblack Resident
Charlemagne Allen Well I would then argue that something client side (on your viewer) would potentially alter the intended experience proposed by some sim... I do not know if there is a potential for a single solution here

What you think of as cool tunes and what others think of as cool tunes could be miles apart. I'd replace any electronic tempo with silence.
Charlemagne Allen
Rowan Amore You can always mute local sounds.
Lucifer Baphomet
Charlemagne Allen Chaz, Turning off local sounds... that's a lousy solution. You realize, of course, that a lot of people build soundscapes into sims, and you might want to hear that but not the soundtrack sounds, which you might not enjoy. This is forcing something people might not want, and I can't support it at all.
