Upgrading Public Works & LL Structures
under review
Sunset Swizzle
Hello Lindens, This time I am not here to buy more land but I do have a request. You all have this huge black and white Lighthouse that is on the Public Works land (Moma sim), maybe it's been there since 2003. Is it at all possible to modernize this, or make it smaller, maybe even make it one color so its not so much of an eyesore? I don't tend to complain about much but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. I can think of 100 things that can go there that would be more appealing to the eye. Hopefully LL can also upgrade and give a facelift to its public works sites.

Lighthouses are supposed to be vivid and eye-catching. That's why they're brightly coloured or have contrasting stripes. I say leave Moma's lighthouse alone, it's doing it's job very well - because you noticed it!
If you don't like this lighthouse, feel free to derender it!

Hello Sunset! While we do not have any current plans to update mainland content, we will review your request for the "glow-up" to this venerable location. Thanks!

In SL as in RL, the visual appearance of something is very much in the eye of the beholder. One persons eyesore is another's thing of beauty and so on. If your request was answered, it would open a door of endless adjustments for the daily tastes of all of SLs users.

If it's made exclusively out of prims it could probably be exported and converted into mesh if it's mod, or you created it. But that also depends on the prims themselves. If you give me a moment I can link you to a thread I made not too long ago that is somewhat related to all of this. Honestly thought given the title that maybe it was the same idea.

https://feedback.secondlife.com/ldpw/p/mainland-prim-to-mesh-upgrade-project-linden-labs-museum-of-prims If you want I can also take a look at the lighthouse sometime and see if I can do it myself. In theory it should reduce the land impact.

marxman1313 Resident Hardly, unless you would cull the LOD models or used something that doesn't resemble the base model at all. It is a very compact build and not too functional, and they probably chose it for its low LI, otherwise they could have rezzed a LH lighthouse from Bellisseria there.

AlettaMondragon Resident Bellesaria is only 5 years old at most, I don't remember exactly but I know it came around roughly the same time as the pandemic. These probably wouldn't have existed by then. As for the LOD? I'd have to take a look at the model but if it's a conventional lighthouse the most complex part would be the stairwell, the rest shouldn't be a huge issue. I wouldn't want to trash the relic anyways, just give it a facelift. But reading all of this again anyways and understanding better what's being asked OP can just deal.

marxman1313 Resident 2019, they already had the lighthouse model, they used it in Kuga where the Channel of Doom to Jeogeot started, when Bellisseria was only the Traditional Homes area yet and this was its south end.

As you can see in the photos, the lighthouse (beautiful lighthouse by the way with the also beautiful, historic SS Galaxy behind. I bet someone will suggest to destroy it and give it a mesh "facelift" soon) has a whopping LI of 320. In its defense, its LOD is great, and since it is a lighthouse, that is very useful. I'm pretty sure it could be down to 100-150 LI total and still very visible, this is the point I was trying to make in the other thread when I said LDPW mesh objects in Bellisseria are not optimized for SL. The "sidehouse" is just a prop, no interior, and it is 54 LI. It retains its shape very well at the lowest LOD too, now I say this is overkill because it wouldn't be necessary to be visible at a high distance and still see the full shape, this could be down to 10 LI at most.
Now the lighthouse in Moma, this is not all linked together. The bottom part shows a creation time of 2008-05-21 while the tower and the top show 2007-07-22, so it is very old and made of prims. LL placed it here on 2020-07-21. There is a really nice, also very old cathedral behind this lighthouse, and that is made of prims as well. As you can see both of these lighthouses have large-scale, very detailed, beautiful prim builds behind them.
The bottom part is 59 LI, the tower 4, the top 10, so that is a total of 45. Kidding, 73. There is no interior in the tower, no stairs, not even a tortured spiraling prim. Which is disappointing, I like to climb up to the top of lighthouses, so if anything, that would be nice. I just flew up to the top though.
If you look at the pictures from Moma, you can see the remaining LI capacity is 650, so the LH lighthouse is not an option here, it wouldn't leave much capacity for vehicles and there are two roads going through here. Capacity is a big factor here so they can't just put anything here. If you can offer a more detailed, nicer version of this lighthouse with no more LI, asking LL if they would like to swap the old one to it can't hurt, but I personally think it is really pointless.

Sunset Swizzle Do you want to destroy old buildings in the real world too just because you don't like how they look? This lighthouse hasn't been here since 2003.

It is an old creation. Everything directly around it is old, too. Have you seen the cathedral? Very impressive building made of prims.
By the way these in the photos look so much better and fit in so well, especially the rocks not blending into the grassy, mossy terrain at all. Also that dark building is so very detailed, I almost cut myself with its sharp edges while looking at it. The LOD of these mesh objects is so nice too! Maybe these need a facelift as well.
