Fish Hunt - Fishing rods suddenly breaking after 10+ years of stable use

Since September 5th, our players have started reporting that their fishing rods break and become unresponsive. The main script, which relies on the
touch_start
event, no longer triggers.This issue resembles a stack/heap error, but in this case, no errors are reported by the simulator or viewer—unlike typical stack/heap failures. Memory exhaustion is also unlikely, as this script has functioned correctly for over 10 years without issues.
The problem occurs in the following scenarios:
* When players teleport between regions
* Occasionally during active fishing
* Some players report it happening upon login while they log in wearing the rod (as attachment)
The issue affects many players, but not all, which suggests that the problem is not caused by our scripts or the fishing rod itself. We have been unable to determine why the same fishing rod behaves differently: for some players it breaks, while for others it continues to function normally as it has for years.
Around 30 - 50 total players affected so far since September 5th.
Aprox. about 7% of our players have been affected.

Since I have noticed other scripts failing for no reason (starting a few months ago) I have found that recompiling them would fix it generally. I have no idea what is going on in the back end, but for some reason, some scripts need recompiling. Even after changing NOTHING in the script, they work again. Have you tried a recompile, and if so, did it work?

It appears to me that if the script is running, either the llResetScript() function or the llResetOtherScript() function might be able to unbreak it, however, neither of those will work if the script is not running, which I suspect is the case.
Might it be possible to put in some code to make it less likely for the script to break, such as the following?:

Maestro Linden another issue happening is when staff try to verify a broken rod so we can sort a redelivery, our rods are then breaking just by simply touching the broken rod

My Magic Fish Rod is also broken. And although free rod replacements are available, each one gets broken after a single use. I guess I'd hold fish hunting until this issue gets resolved.

Ok, so, I had run into some issues with the free rods, as others have. I have been on this account for about three weeks. I have had so many problems with the free rods that I just got used to "buying" a new one everywhere I'd gone.
I have enjoyed LGH's Fish Hunt fishing in SL so much that I purchased a Deluxe Rod. I didn't have any issues last night (10/18/25 EST). I had fished at several places and had no issues. Suddenly, SL crashed and I just went to bed. This morning, that rod did not work. I ended up using a back up rod that I was given. That rod worked at "Bear of Boogie Land" until I ran out of fish to get.
I TP'd to "A Park in the Business Park" and rod #2 did not work. I am using rod #3, of the 3 Deluxe Rods given to me, and it is working at this spot, at this time. I do not know if it will break when I leave.
Please fix this as it is the only reason bringing me into SL at this time.

My fishing "Dragon rod" broke when I teleported from the ground of my plot to my skybox in the same plot when I clicked on the landmark in the MY PLACES menu. Afterward, an error window opened stating that the FX_COLOR script in the fishing rod had been deleted. Usually, teleporting between your plots automatically opens the fishing rod menu in this fishing rod, where the player can choose the color, size, etc. It's possible something is breaking this menu, causing the fishing rod to break.

I use the pro rod and Will gave me a couple of rods as backups. I was fishing at POF Kingdom and detached my rod but when I reattached it no longer worked. Also, one of my rods is stuck loading at 1s.

I have broken a couple more rods just doing my normal fishing and trying to not teleport as much . They are still breaking randomly one may last a few days then another will break in one day . Any news on a fix of any kind?

Hi guys, thanks for the incident reports. We were able to find evidence of the script faults in the server logs, and (as Wili Clip suggests) the error does look different from your usual stack-heap collision or other run time error).

Maestro Linden I have found refreshing attachments before teleporting and after landing SEEMS to prevent the rod breaking . I have testing and broken 20 Rods now and the last couple was me forgetting to refresh attachments before a teleport
