Group Notification Attachments not opening from Stale (Offline) Notifications
tracked

I am consistently not able to open attachments from Group Notifications. If the group notification was sent while you were offline, this occurs. IF you are online and open the notification you just received, it will work as expected.
Sometimes it will display that the object has been saved to my inventory, however it does not. You can go into the Group Notifications in the Group floater to open it that way as a workaround.
This issue is present in all viewers I have tried, and research I have gathered from other third party viewer devs indicates this is most likely a server-side issue.

This has been going on for a very long time. It would seem a rather basic fix. so why are we still having this problem after all these months? This isn't a matter of logging in and out and losing the attachment. We can't get the attachment the first time I read the notice... and quite often I'm in-world when the notice first appears. This problem appears to be 100% server-side.

Offline group notices are pretty broken in general. Depending on the combination of group and the receiving account, in tests from years ago, the delivery failure (both in-viewer and to email) can be as high as 100% for offline notices.
My vote is for overhauling group notices with a new system. :)

Without Ordinary Agreed. One of my greatest peeves this year has been SL not delivering group notices. I missed FOUR major events this year (my favorites of the year) because SL simply didn't deliver the group notice, either to email or in-world.
LL "recommended" I check my groups for new notices every time I log in. Can we even imagine checking through 40 or 50 groups every day just to see if a new notice has been posted? Ridiculous.
LL checked and found that the notice was sent... but for some reason the system didn't send the notice to my email when I was offline. My notice-to-email was turned ON, so I should have gotten the notice, but didn't. I wonder if their billing system ever fails to send out a bill? ;-)
Sorry, I know that was a little snide, but really, this should have been fixed long ago. Group notices are too important to residents to be lost in the machine. Groups depend on events to fund their sims. Group notices notify members of those events. Failed events = failed donations = FAILED FUNDING TO PAY TIER. What about that doesn't strike LL as top priority, so that these issues have continued for almost a year now?

Thanks for the updated log file. I did a bit more digging, and see the issue:
There's a limitation/bug in the offline group notice attachment-fetching logic in the simulator. If an offline group notice is pending for your agent and you login, the initial simulator fetches the notice and forwards it to your agent, and keeps a record of the notification's attachment in case you want to download it. If your viewer moves to a different region or logs out, the information about the attachment location is lost. This issue has been reported a few times in Jira, and can be found here:
The session you attached logs for was actually your 2nd viewer session after the notice was sent. Your earlier session was a few minutes earlier, and started off in a different region before moving to Fractal. I believe that if you had tried to fetch the attachment in that earlier session's initial region, it would have fetched properly, but as soon as you TP'ed to Fractal, the bug would have appeared - fetching the attachment from the notification would start to fail.

Major Simp thanks for the info - I was able to view the viewer log in your freshdesk ticket.
Unfortunately, it seems like the attached SecondLife.log is from a different session, from a few hours after the failure incident you mentioned. The log starts around 2024-03-20T03:08 UTC (which would be 2024-03-19T22:08 CDT - 5 hour difference), so it's definitely not capturing the failure you noted at 2024-03-19T15:42 CDT (2024-03-19T20:42 UTC).
Looking at the region logs for Fractal, it looks like your agent was not present in the region around the timeframe of the failure (I checked 2024-03-19T15:38 - 2024-03-19T15:58 CT). If there's a big gap between the time the notice was sent and the time you tried to fetch the attachment in the viewer, could you please note that 2nd timestamp?
Finally, since you were able to receive the notice during your "receive notice while online" test at 2024-03-19T15:42 CDT, do you think there's a connection between your online/offline status and the notice being fetched? It seems possible to me that this bug could be specific to notices that were received while offline.
Major Simp
Maestro Linden The issue seems to be happening with offline notices only, as to times not matching up I'm not sure. I have re-uploaded the log file just to be sure, I checked and it contains the Fractal region from when I was there.

To see more details about why group notice attachments are failing to download, could you please try the following?
- Install the latest second life viewer from https://get.secondlife.com
- Launch the viewer
- Send a notice to a group you have group-notice-sending permissions in, with a landmark attached
- As soon as the notice appears, click on the attachment section - this _should_ cause the landmark to be copied to your landmarks folder
- Note if the issue reproduces (does the attached landmark appear in your agent inventory?)
- Write down (for reporting here) the:
- 1. name of the group
- 2. timestamp associated with the notice (will appear in the group panel)
- 3. 'about second life' info (including viewer information and region name)
- Exit the viewer
- Create a support ticket at https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new , and attach your viewer's SecondLife.log to it
- On Windows, SecondLife.log is found in %APPDATA%\SecondLife\user_settings\
- On Mac, SecondLife.log is found in ~/Library/Application\ Support/SecondLife/user_settings/
- Attach the resulting session's SecondLife.log to this ticket
- Report these details here:
- 1. The details of the incident:
- 1a. name of the group
- 1b. timestamp associated with the notice (will appear in the group panel)
- 1c. 'about second life' info
- 2. The issue id of the support ticket containing the viewer logs
