Object failed to rez due to failure to calculate rez position
needs info
Darkover Nightfall
This happens intermittently, in any region, where an object won't rez and the attached message appears. Most of the time rezzing in a different spot in that region ends up working, but on one occasion a whole region was giving this error when trying to rez. Multiple people affected.

Hi Darkover Nightfall, I suspect you might be seeing a case of this issue: https://feedback.secondlife.com/bug-reports/p/false-error-report-when-failed-rez-on-mesh
This type of failure is known to happen when trying to rez objects on top of meshes with bad collision geometry. It's known to happen region-wide if the bad mesh happens to be very large (such as a 'sim surround').
I'm unable to reproduce the rez error at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kania/36/216/14 when rezzing onto either the terrain or the nearby submerged concrete block. Are you seeing the error message there specifically, or somewhere else (possibly near some suspect meshes)?

Hi Maestro Linden, sorry i didn't realize you would check the location i sent the report from- there was no issue at that one. One of the locations it happens frequently is https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hollywood/235/37/22, over water.
Rezzing a few feet behind that tends to work fine.
This is NOT like the usual fail on rez issue, unless you guys added a new notification to an existing problem? This looks like a brand new issue i have never experienced previously in SL.

Darkover Nightfall: Okay, at that SLURL, when I try to rez a basic object from inventory over the water (with a trying to rez I'm actually seeing this viewer bug: https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/issues/5980
With the viewer bug, the cursor changes to a 'no entry' sign when I drag a basic box from inventory onto the water at the default camera angle, so attempting rez is impossible.
If I angle the camera to be a bit more vertical, so that the camera is a bit more vertical (and the terrain _behind_ that water is not culled by the viewer's renderer), I'm able to rez objects properly. This screenshot shows the placement.
Are you actually seeing the "failure to calculate rez position" error message from the server, or is the viewer preventing you from attempting to rez on the water?
If it is the "failure to calculate rez position" error, can you share a screenshot showing the exact camera perspective and rez position you tried to rez the object at? With that info we can try to figure out which object (probably a mesh) is the problem.

Darkover Nightfall: Another Linden reminded me that the 'failed to calculate rez position' error message is actually a new (and more correct) error message that triggers when rezzing fails due to some sort of position calculation error.
Previously, the same type of rez failure would incorrectly indicate that the rez failure was due to parcel permissions, which could be very confusing when the parcel was buildable, so we had an update to make the error message less confusing.
I do know that rezzing on tops of certain 'broken' mesh objects can trigger the calculation failure, but I'm curious to discover which specific nearby object is causing the error for your rez attempts.
