Ability to sell a MP item for any price the buyer thinks an item is worth, from $0L up

I would like the ability to list an item for sale on the marketplace with the option to make the price open and flexible, so that the buyer can decide what they wish to pay for it. Obviously, some will pay nothing and get the item. Some will pay what they can afford, and some will pay what they believe is a fair price for the work. All of those options would still provide them the item using whatever price they enter at checkout. I want to do this as an alternative to just offering an item for $0L. The 10% per sale fee would still apply to any amount above $10L

only a well known name "Maxwell Graf" could pull this off... unknown creators would get paid nothing.

You think I'm doing this as an exploit to make a ton of sales? Some kindof get rich quick scheme to snatch money from "unknown creators?" I'm not sure what your point is, but I assure you, this is my attempt to offer options to people who want my work, even if they can't afford it or don't want to pay for it.
As for being well known, there's no shortage of people who don't have any idea who I am. I stopped making profit in SL quite a few years ago and I have never made "a living" at it. Don't hold it against me because I spent 19 years actively contributing and being involved with the SL community and paying for at least one region that whole time. There are plenty of people who have contributed and paid much more than I have. I have also made most of my work available for free already, so complain if you want to, but don't blame me. I put in my time here and spent much more money in SL than I ever made and you know what? I'm still nobody, but thank you for making me think I ever was.

This is how I sell some items on Drive Thru RPG and it's been a great way to get those pieces out to a wider audiences. Would love to see this for MP.

I've built things from SL's tallest skyscraper to houses to spoons. The big stuff is easy. All of the small products are very nice, but I either have no idea how to price them, or I don't care what they sell for. This is a perfect solution for all of my little things of low demand. For example, I made a pewter plate, bowl, and silverware that I doubt many people search for, but if they stumbled upon it using a "pay what's fair to you" search, they might purchase it for $0L, or perhaps $5L. That tiny sale is worth nothing to me monetarily, but when they rez it they may be impressed with the quality, and visit my store for other items. I honestly see no downside for this. I think it's a great idea.
Heck, I might even put some of my old houses up for sale with a tool like that.

This is a really nice idea that I support very much in principle and I would be keen to implement it myself. The only point I would make is that you may find people less generous and charitable than you'd perhaps like and hope for. For some years my own MP has offered free items and then later I began introducing priced items, and I regularly see folks stripping literally every free item yet not spending one L$ on even minimally-priced items. This just seems to be human nature. For a long time I've had one item available in two versions: free, and donationware - choose this one if you'd like to support my work. I think I've sold about three donationware versions over the years but hundreds of the free one. All of which is fine, since from the outset my intent was to make free boats available to anyone who wanted them, but I'm just mentioning it as a possible outcome.

I think it will devalue the work and everything will be free... only a few will pay 1 lind for a symbolic price. I value my work. And even if I buy a full perm for 0 linds and draw textures. Don't forget that downloading one texture costs 10L, and I download them for hundreds and thousands of L. And I also make Hud for many textures, etc. I spend 2 weeks of work on one set and think, why the hell give it away for free? You are mocking other people's work))) I just advise you) Put your product up for 0 linds and get a thrill from it) I don't need such a thrill. I'll die of hunger with such offers.

Fneil8 Resident I think you're confused; you don't have to set your items to be free. You can charge whatever you want.
I run a store where I categorically don't care about the price but I'd be happy if someone sent me anything. Pay What You Want is not an unusual scheme for online stores, why shouldn't SL have the option?
Maxwell Graf
If a creator giving a discount devalues your work, then it's not their item that is the reason. Value in SL has never been a representation of the effort involved in making it, but based on volume. The profit pie has been divided into thinner and thinner slices, and depending on it for sustenance will starve you to death, but not because someone else wants to charge less than you. Will I use this for every item I make? No, but I should have it as an option, and so should you and every other creator. Our work is then in the hands of as many people as possible. Your customers will be happy, ESPECIALLY the ones who got it for free or might not have been able to afford it. That is what this idea is about. I want them to decide.

If it's possible, this could also be a good way to get around 0L items not being giftable... If you could set items this way, someone could pay 1L and gift the item.

That is a great point I had not considered! Even more reason to push for this, I've no idea what it would take to make it happen, but lets find out! Thanks for your input!
