Add Official Marketplace Search JSON/API Access
NealB Resident
Please add an official JSON/API endpoint for Second Life Marketplace search that allows applications and services to query Marketplace listings and retrieve structured search results.
Having Marketplace search data available through an API could open many possibilities for developers and creators across the Second Life ecosystem.
Examples of data that could be returned:
- Product name
- Marketplace URL
- Product image
- Store name
- Price
- Category
- Description snippet
- Permissions (Copy / Modify / Transfer)
- Creator name
- Ratings/reviews
This could enable many new experiences, such as:
- AI assistants and AI Bots helping residents search and shop directly in-world
- Natural-language shopping experiences
- HUDs and scripted in-world tools that surface Marketplace results
- Recommendation systems
- External websites and applications
- Accessibility tools
- Community-driven projects and integrations
One example:
A resident could ask:
"Find me modern black sofas under L$500"
or
"Show me fantasy outfits with good ratings"
An AI assistant or in-world bot could search Marketplace and guide the resident without requiring them to manually leave Second Life and browse externally.
AI is only one example; once developers have access to Marketplace search data, many additional use cases will likely emerge.
This could significantly expand innovation around shopping, discovery, and resident experiences throughout Second Life.

It would be great to be able to connect search results to special agents, learning habits and practical tools. Voted up!

That would be cool, yes :-) A JSON API for developers creators would allow us to innovate in our interaction with the marketplace.
