Buying names without immediately changing to it
Nyx Onyx
It is possible to keep purchased names for a later time, not only possible but kept for all time, locked to your account. But sometimes one might want to buy a name for later use. Today if you want to do that, you need to first buy it, which changes your name immediately, and then pay to switch again back to the previous name. I'd like to request a tick box at the time of purchase labeled along the lines of "Don't change to the purchased name now".

This, but I'd also really like to see a greatly reduced fee schedule, if not the elimination of such, for changing to
prior
names. If the fee schedule was eliminated, I feel like the issue this request addresses would become just a minor friction point, but the request would still be a nice QoL addition.Jerrod Diavolo
Shits Lit I feel before frequent name changes like that are implemented we need a system that tells others about your name change. It has become painful already to try to figure out who is who on your own friends list with all the recent name changes. Not to mention that many scripts and third party integrations are configured using your name instead of avatar key.

The LSL wiki has advised against using avatar names for actual association since just about everybody started using Second Life, and as name changes are not a recent invention, there are documented name changes that took place well before the paid service was announced I feel that is more than justified. As a scripter myself, I have little sympathy for scripts that were made against the longstanding advice on the wiki.
As for a notification system of sorts, that would be an awesome addition to how name changes work now, but I would want it to be an option. Some people change their names to get away, not be followed easily.
As for me I change my name whenever they add a new name I think I can do something funny with so I'd be more than happy to have an easier way for my acquaintances and people looking for me find me since I do know it is a confusion point. I just know several as well that are in the other boat and don't want their lives to be harder as a result.
