Frustrations in Finding a New Linden Home
Doddy Meiler
I know this topic has been brought up over and over, so maybe something needs to be done about it. Today I abandoned my place in the Mediterranean region to try out Ridgewood Enclave. The 1st place was not what I wanted, so I tried again. 2nd place, was still not what I wanted, so tried a 3rd time. 3rd, 4th and 5th were constant repeats of the same place, even though I spaced them out 10 minutes before trying again. It is so frustrating because now I have no home for 24 hours.
I pay for premium plus and can't understand why this problem can't be worked out.
Here are a few suggestions -
1- Before someone clicks on the accept new place, they should be shown the address before submitting, so if it is the same place, they can try again later.
2- Warn us when we are using our last attempt at getting a place so we don't abandon it. People don't always realize its their last try.
3- As a premium plus resident, I feel I'm paying enough to have the privilege of having more attempts to find a home, or at least a shorter waiting time before trying again. It sucks to pay so much a month and spend my time searching for homes and have to wait 24 hours before I might find one the next day.
4- Rather than having us commit to a house we haven't seen, maybe give us 10 minutes to decide if it's what we want before making it count towards our limited tries. Homes are personal to many of us, we want to like what we get.

The failure of Linden Lab to update the LH allocation algorithm is preposterous. While it is true that P+ residents can request a specific home, that is not guaranteed to work because you cannot reserve the home while your request is "in process".
All I can say to whoever sets priorities at LL... "Get a clue".

As someone already mentioned, for Premium +, you can find an available home and request it via ticket.
As far as warning you when you are losing your last chance, that's easy to know since we only get 5 chances.
I found a way to look on the map of Linden homes for available homes in the regions i would like. Its a bit tedious doing it this way, but it does help me to locate what's available lol. If i pull up the map of the area, i just click on various homes to see if it has a name or just says Linden. The available ones not yet claimed will still say Linden Home. And then i tp to it. Like i said a bit tedious, but it works for me. My method also shows me on the map if its near water or not.
I do agree it would be nice if the available homes were highlighted maybe in yellow or something like that. But you can look on the map like i do, find a home you would like and then submit a ticket to get that home.

if you go to the Bellisseria Bureau of Bureaucracy @ http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Swordfish/210/44/21 , on one of the walls in there is a Belli Home Finder HUD (everything there is FREE) which can speed up finding available homes in a region. OK yes you still have to tp to each region in turn but it will tell you if any Linden homes are available in that region. If you are then Prem + you can request that location

Why not make unassigned Linden home terrain appear on the map in a different color if that choice is made?
On mainland or private estates - you click & edit the ground and orange is for sale , green is your land etc.
Being able to quickly see what is available will allow people to move near friends- create neighborhoods.
The 5 and done for 24 hours was to control lag - and maybe is needed for brand new style releases but why the tight control for existing house types?

Yes. It’s been an annoying problem for years. I’ve brought it to LL’s attention on several occasions under different accounts and they always blow it off like it’s no big deal.

As a Premium Plus resident you have the option to just file a support ticket to get a specific Linden Home of your choosing. After finding a suitable unoccupied home in-world you can just choose the "Linden Homes" category in your ticket, provide the region name and SLURL for the parcel, and state that you'd like that particular home.

Clapping Cheeks all of this. There is already an option to do what you seek.

Crexon Resident the problem with this is that you have to search through the sims via map or walking through them to find available linden homes. In some types of linden homes it's not difficult to find a location you like, but in others, it takes FOREVER to even find one that is not already owned. I think they ought to list a tp link to the suggested available one so you can go see it prior to swapping. Then you can at least see before abandoning and submitting a request. I also think this should be available for all who pay for SL memberships. We can see parcels available on mainland before buying so why not in the linden home regions, it's just stupid that it doesn't already exist.

Clapping Cheeks There might be something to this suggestion- it's useless to get to choose if you can't find any empty ones without having a list of empty ones.

Paul Hexem There are just so many vacant Linden Homes everywhere throughout Bellisseria, there is no way you can't bump into dozens of them in a small area in about 10 minutes of walking. P+ areas are more populated yet but I see many empty ones while just traveling though. Maybe people don't like the ones next to the railroads.

AlettaMondragon Resident I was looking for one just recently and only found a couple. Which tells me the open ones are only in the worst possible locations that most people won't look in. Anecdotal of course, but it reflects the complaint of this issue.
AlettaMondragon Resident
Paul Hexem Are we talking about 2048sqm P+ homes here specifically or all types of homes? With the standard homes of many types I wouldn't say there's no selection, of course if you have a very specific kind of location in mind that might be difficult. With the P+ homes I guess the prime area issue is very valid since there are not so many of them altogether. There could be but then they'd end up like the normal ones. It is a bit disappointing to be honest when most homes in a LH region are vacant. Certainly less scripts running and no weird misplaced items around but it's like a ghost town.
Paul Hexem
AlettaMondragon Resident In my case it was 2048's, yes. Although since we're talking about "choosing your own" as a solution, that's P+ by default.
AlettaMondragon Resident
Paul Hexem OK I was focusing on availability, not choosing, but wait. If you, with P+ membership, decide you'd like a traditional home in Penrod for example and you haven't used your LH allocation elsewhere at the moment, you could ask for any vacant home in Penrod at Support, couldn't you? (So any Bellisseria Linden Home no matter if it's standard or P+)
Paul Hexem
AlettaMondragon Resident Yes, you could. The issue brought up in this feature request (as I understand it) is knowing before you ask if there's a vacant home there. What if you want one in Brady Stream? Well, now you go there, look around, see they're all taken. Okay, fine, I'll take Hydrant. Nope, same problem. Let me try Salmon Ella instead... Nope, same issue. I spent a good two hours in that loop before I gave up and gambled, got one I didn't like. I finally found one days later while out on a boat, by random chance. Someone else might give up and downgrade back to regular Premium.
AlettaMondragon Resident
Paul Hexem This makes perfect sense, I asked because I wanted to make sure I understand the system so I don't say anything stupid. So this is really a supply and demand issue, mostly, but yes I can see the problem that the vacant homes are not highlighted or listed anywhere, so it's not really efficient.
Interesting you said one might give up and downgrade to regular premium because playing the game of getting a random home and trying to do it again and again until it might drop the "dream home" is why some people give up on Bellisseria. You have these two options, take the RNG or go for P+, now if you don't feel like you need it for anything else, you won't pay extra just to be able to request that particular location. Much easier to find a pretty place on mainland and pay a little but then enjoy your roadside or waterfront home or wherever you like it. And this is why so many normal LH are vacant.
It would just make more sense to allow every Premium user to select a specific vacant LH parcel and have the list of all parcels available under the type of home at the LH page on the dashboard, so then employees at Support wouldn't have to deal with requests either. You see a great spot that is not occupied, you could enter the location in a search field and select it, or the other way around, you could browse the list and see which you like. I'm sure that would reduce the number of empty LHs in general if it wasn't a P+ exclusive feature. Now we're right where the OP was with the suggestion so I guess we all agree this is really needed.
