Product tagging on Marketplace
Chaos Puppy
Many marketplace products are inadequately described, making search difficult. User-generated tagging of products could improve the search experience and product visibility through crowdsourcing, particularly by making connections unanticipated or left unspecified by the creator.
Think of being able to tag or find products tagged as goth, retro-futurist, preppie, harajuku, art deco, mid-century modern, vaporwave, shabby chic, kitsch, steampunk, softboy, etc. etc.
Store owners could be able to remove tags they find objectionable?
Could be limited to purchasers?

This assumes that enough users will bother to create tags. Also assumes the tags provided would be accurate (differentiate goth from biker). Also assumes the tags are meaningful and finally, thst it would not be abused.
Store owners should be solely responsible to for how their products are presented. I don't know how products are added, but perhaps a suggested tags list that is accurate could be helpful.
Chaos Puppy
Cuddles Supply I think users would be motivated to create tags, because difficulty in finding things on marketplace is a very common complaint. If someone tags a "goth" product as "biker" or vice-versa then the chances are that other people will share the same opinion, correctly or incorrectly (a lot of this could very well be subjective), which is part of the beauty of crowdsourcing. Meaningless or abusive tags could be removed by the product owner or flagged as abuse.

Isn't that what the keywords are for?
Chaos Puppy
Miro Collas creator-generated keywords have the same problem as product descriptions: they're only as good as the effort the creator puts into them. Crowdsourced tags harness the effort and imagination of the community - as I said, potentially making connections unanticipated by the creator.
Furthermore, keywords are not visible to marketplace shoppers, I pictured that these tags would be visible and clickable to a search for similarly-tagged items.
Take the tags on Flickr for example. Actually they're a great example because they have inbuilt controls for who can tag a picture.
